Uncovering the role of nanoscale precipitates on martensitic transformation and superelasticity

Shivam Tripathi et al.

Summary: In this study, the role of coherent nanoscale B2 Ni50Al50 precipitates on the temperature- and stress-induced martensitic phase transformation in nanocrystalline Ni63Al37 shape memory alloys was characterized using multimillion-atoms molecular dynamics simulations. The simulations revealed that the presence of precipitates significantly improved the reversibility of the transformation and stabilized the stress-strain response.

Molecular dynamics simulation on the cyclic deformation of magnesium single crystals

Zheyuan Xing et al.

Summary: Molecular dynamics simulations were used to study the cyclic deformation of magnesium single crystalline nano-pillars, revealing that the crystalline orientation and loading path can influence the tension-compression asymmetry. Different deformation modes were observed under different loading directions and angles, providing new insights into the mechanical property of Mg crystals under cyclic loading.

Effects of temperature on mechanical properties and deformation mechanisms of the equiatomic CrFeNi medium-entropy alloy

Mike Schneider et al.

Summary: Investigations on equiatomic CrFeNi medium-entropy alloy reveal stable face-centered cubic solid solution properties at specific temperatures. Cold-working and recrystallization processes can produce different grain sizes, showing varied mechanical properties and deformation mechanisms influenced by temperature. Analysis of deformation processes at different strains indicates a combination of dislocation glide and twinning mechanisms.

On the low-cycle fatigue response of CoCrNiFeMn high entropy alloy with ultra-fine grain structure

S. Picak et al.

Summary: In this study, the yield strength of High Entropy Alloy CoCrFeMnNi was improved through Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP), resulting in very high yield strength levels and superior fatigue life at low strain amplitudes. The refined grain size, high density dislocation walls, and dislocation annihilation were identified as key factors governing the fatigue life and hardening behavior of the alloy.

Cyclic Plasticity of CoCrFeMnNi High-Entropy Alloy (HEA): A Molecular Dynamics Simulation

Xin Du et al.

Summary: This study investigated the cyclic plasticity of CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy by molecular dynamics simulation, revealing that lattice disorder generated during cyclic deformation impedes the reverse movement of dislocations and weakens the Bauschinger's effect. The cyclic plasticity, especially Bauschinger's effect, is highly dependent on temperature and pre-existing twin boundaries, affecting the extent of lattice disorder.

Effects of void and inclusion sizes on mechanical response and failure mechanism of AlCrCuFeNi2 high-entropy alloy

Dinh-Quan Doan et al.

Summary: The study found that there is a critical value of mechanical parameters for samples with an inclusion size of 15 angstrom under tension, and increasing void size and decreasing strain rate lead to a decrease in mechanical parameters. Deformation behavior is influenced by voids and inclusions, with shear bands propagating at a 45-degree angle.

Unique hot deformation behavior and microstructure evolution of a dual FCC-phase CoCrCu1.2FeNi high entropy alloy

Jufu Jiang et al.

Summary: The hot deformation behavior and microstructure evolution of the CoCrCu1.2FeNi high entropy alloy composed of two FCC phases were investigated through hot compression tests and EBSD analysis. Two optimized hot working regions were found and asynchronous dynamic recrystallization was observed. The DRX mechanism shifted from DDRX to CDRX with increasing temperature, leading to the formation of hot working defects.
