Effect of Modified MnO2 Anodes on the Electrolytic Effect of Doxycycline Hydrochloride

Summary: In this study, a series of MnO2 modified electrodes were prepared to effectively degrade doxycycline hydrochloride in simulated wastewater. The corrosion resistance of the coated electrodes was evaluated and the electrocatalytic ability of the electrode was studied using various electrochemical tests. The MnO2/CuO-SBA-15 electrode displayed a long lifetime and excellent catalytic performance and when combined with peroxynitrite, it showed effective removal of doxycycline hydrochloride from wastewater.

Hydrothermal nanoarchitectonics of Z-scheme g-C3N4/Bi2WO6 heterojunction with enhanced adsorption and photocatalytic activity for fluoroquinolone antibiotics removal: Kinetics, mechanism and degradation pathway

Summary: A novel g-C3N4/Bi2WO6 photocatalyst with remarkable adsorption capacity was synthesized through hydrothermal method, which showed improved adsorption efficiency and photocatalytic activities for fluoroquinolone antibiotics. The adsorption efficiency for norfloxacin and levofloxacin reached 54.53% and 43.73% under dark condition, and increased to 85.75% and 85.82% after visible light irradiation. The enhanced photocatalytic activities were attributed to improved visible-light utilization and suppressed carriers recombination due to the formation of Z-scheme heterojunction.

Bi(III) and Ce(IV) functionalized carbon nitride photocatalyst for antibiotic degradation: Synthesis, toxicity, and mechanism investigations

Summary: In this study, Bi/Ce/g-C3N4 photocatalysts were developed by direct calcination method for Rhodamine B and sulfamethoxazole photocatalytic degradation. The results showed that the photocatalytic performance of Bi/Ce/g-C3N4 catalysts were better than that of single component samples. The enhanced activity was attributed to the capture of electrons after doping modification, which inhibited carrier recombination and reduced the band gap width.

Summary: In this study, a novel high-efficiency double Z-type nano-photocatalyst (VO-UCN@CCO) was developed by encapsulating spinel CuCo2O4 into V2O5-decorated ultra-wrinkled graphitic carbon-nitride for the first time. The photocatalyst showed excellent performance in the photodisintegration of levofloxacin antibiotic under visible-light irradiation, with 40% loading of CCO displaying the maximum photocatalytic activity. The composite exhibited high efficiency, reusability, and achieved complete mineralization of levofloxacin after 300 minutes of reaction.

Sequential combination of photocatalysis and microalgae technology for promoting the degradation and detoxification of typical antibiotics

Summary: Antibiotic contamination is a major environmental concern due to the potential emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance genes. In this study, the combination of photocatalysis and microalgae technology was demonstrated for efficient removal and reduction of environmental risk posed by three typical antibiotics. The use of g-C3N4 material, synthesized through an easy thermal polymerization process, showed promising results for antibiotic degradation. Photocatalytic products and their degradation pathways were identified, and the introduction of microalgae further promoted the degradation of these products, ultimately reducing their toxicity.

Simultaneous electrochemical degradation of tetracycline and metronidazole through a high-efficiency and low-energy-consumption advanced oxidation process

Summary: In this study, Ti3+ and oxygen vacancies self-doped TiO2-x nanotube array electrodes were used to investigate the simultaneous degradation of antibiotics tetracycline and metronidazole in water. The results showed that the nanotube arrays prepared with a reduction time of 10 minutes exhibited the best degradation performance. When a mixed solution of tetracycline and metronidazole was simultaneously degraded, the removal rate reached 100% within 3 hours, with a chemical oxygen demand removal rate of 79.1%. The energy consumption was significantly reduced compared to the degradation of a single substance, and the current utilization rate of the electrochemical degradation system was also significantly improved, with a specific energy consumption of 85.78 kWh kg-1 and an average current efficiency of 20.2%.

Summary: Nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibres derived from polyaniline can generate and activate H2O2 to form ·OH without metal catalysts. When used as cathode electrodes in microbial fuel cells, they exhibit excellent degradation efficiency for ciprofloxacin hydrochloride and methyl orange, as well as improved electron transfer rate and power generation capacity compared to a single MFC process.

Summary: The abuse and incomplete treatment of doxycycline hydrochloride (DOX) in animal husbandry has resulted in serious environmental problems, particularly the risk of bacterial resistance. This study successfully prepared a Ni/MWCNTs-OH/Ti composite electrode using electrocatalysis, and determined the optimal conditions for DOX degradation. The composite electrode showed good stability and reusability, and the degradation process and toxicity of intermediate products were analyzed through LC-MS and microbial experiments.

Preparation of a ruthenium-modified composite electrode and evaluation of the degradation process and degradation mechanism of doxycycline at this electrode

Summary: An efficient and stable ruthenium/agarose/copper foam composite electrode was successfully prepared for the treatment of antibiotic wastewater. The electrode exhibited excellent catalytic effect and high stability. The composite electrode was characterized by SEM, XRD, and XPS, and the results confirmed its properties. The experimental results showed that the electrode achieved a degradation efficiency of 79.12% for doxycycline and demonstrated good reusability and safety.
