Template-free synthesis of Bi2O2CO3 hierarchical nanotubes self-assembled from ordered nanoplates for promising photocatalytic applications

Liexiao Li et al.

Summary: In this study, hierarchical Bi2O2CO3 nanotubes were synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal route. The effects of reaction time on the morphology and performance of the nanotubes were investigated. The 3-hour-derived nanotubes exhibited the highest photocatalytic performance and were capable of degrading various organic pollutants and purifying simulated industrial wastewater.

ZnO Nanostructures Application in Electrochemistry: Influence of Morphology

Agne Sulciute et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of morphology on the electrochemical properties of ZnO nanostructures, comparing tetrapods of different sizes, nanorods, and nanoparticles. The analysis revealed that large ZnO tetrapods had the highest active surface area and lowest peak separation value, close to theoretical values. It is established that the pore size in different ZnO nanostructures due to packing correlates with their electrochemical properties.

ZIF-8 derived ZnO/TiO2 heterostructure with rich oxygen vacancies for promoting photoelectrochemical water splitting

Qijia Ding et al.

Summary: By using ZIF-8 as the precursor, ZnO/TiO2 photoelectrodes were prepared through electrostatic interaction, leading to the formation of abundant oxygen vacancies in the heterojunction. The optimal photocurrent density of the photoelectrode reached 1.76 mA/cm(2) at 1.23 V vs. RHE, which is 2.75 times that of pure TiO2. The IPCE of the best photoelectrode increased to 58.2% at 390 nm, with charge injection and separation efficiencies reaching 93.53% and 51.62%, respectively.

Photosensitive WS2/ZnO Nano-Heterostructure-Based Electrocatalysts for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Pratik M. Pataniya et al.

Summary: This study presents WS2/ZnO (WZO) nano-heterostructures with optimized materials properties for high-performance photoelectrocatalytic activity, showing faster hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) compared to pristine WS2 and ZnO. The catalyst has stable HER activity for chrono-amperometry of 25 h and cyclic voltammetry of 2000 cycles, demonstrating visible light-sensitive catalytic activity with significantly reduced over potential. Additionally, the research reports a self-powered and fast photodetection ability with a responsivity of 6.7 mA/W and a maximum photoresponsivity of 1.34 A/W.

Tert-butylamine/oleic acid-assisted morphology tailoring of hierarchical Bi4Ti3O12 architectures and their application for photodegradation of simulated dye wastewater

Tingting Cheng et al.

Summary: This study reports the morphology tailoring of hierarchical Bi4Ti3O12 architectures using tert-butylamine (TB) and oleic acid (OA), revealing the significant influence of TB and OA content on the resulting morphologies. Photodegradation experiments showed that the nanosheet-assembled hierarchical microrods exhibited superior activity in degrading dye wastewater. Interestingly, the photodegradation process of mixed dye solutions differed from that of individual dye solutions, indicating a complex photodegradation mechanism of Bi4Ti3O12 photocatalysts.

Role of precursor dependent nanostructures of ZnO on its optical and photocatalytic activity and influence of FRET between ZnO and methylene blue dye on photocatalysis

Smita Dey et al.

Summary: The study investigates the role of different precursors on the nanostructure of hydrothermally synthesized ZnO. It is found that pencil-like nanorods obtained from zinc acetate precursor exhibit the highest photoluminescence intensity. Additionally, external electroluminescence efficiency of the nanorods is determined to be 1.2% at a turn-on voltage of 2.6 V, showing potential for application in light emitting diodes.
