Effect of Ru on ?/?? microstructural evolutions and precipitation of TCP phases during thermal exposure at 1100?C in a single crystal superalloy

Jingxia Sun et al.

Summary: The effect of 2 wt% Ru on gamma/gamma' microstructural evolutions and precipitation of TCP phases was investigated. It was found that Ru significantly suppressed the formation of TCP phases by influencing element partitioning. Detailed analysis showed that Ru increased lattice misfit strain, resulting in stable interfacial dislocation networks and delayed topological inversion, which improved the stability of gamma/gamma' microstructures.

Effects of the orientation relationships between TCP phases and matrix on the morphologies of TCP phases in Ni-based single crystal superalloys

Huixin Jin et al.

Summary: Different orientation relationships between TCP phase and matrix lead to variations in growth morphology, influencing the shape of TCP phase. TCP phases under certain orientations tend to expand along the interface, forming plate-like morphology, while those under other orientations tend to grow layer by layer, resulting in needle-like or rod-like morphology.

High temperature shakedown of a 2nd generation nickel-base single crystal superalloy under tension-torsion loadings

Zhen Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper combines cyclic test results with microstructural observations to establish the conditions for macroscopic shakedown response of a second generation nickel-base single crystal superalloy under tension-torsion loadings at 600 degrees C. The deformation mechanisms in specimens exhibiting shakedown and ratchetting are identified and compared. Directions for future materials development to directly exploit shakedown in design are suggested.

Characterization of distribution of residual stress in shot-peened layer of nickel-based single crystal superalloy DD6 by nanoindentation technique

Ming Liu et al.

Summary: The hardness, elastic modulus, yield strength, work hardening exponent, and residual stress within the shot-peened layer of nickel-based single crystal superalloy DD6 were experimentally obtained by nanoindentation. Different models for calculating residual stresses showed similar trends with depth, but significant differences in values were found, with Wang's model being most suitable for DD6. The study also revealed that residual stress has an impact on mechanical properties such as hardness and yield strength, but has a minimal effect on elastic modulus.

Oxidation behavior of NiCrAlYSi coatings with Re-based diffusion barriers on two superalloys

L. B. Fu et al.

Summary: NiCrAlYSi coatings with or without Re-based diffusion barriers were prepared on K438 and K465 superalloys by electroplating and arc ion plating, showing better oxidation resistance for coatings with Re-based DB and for coatings on K438. Re diffused into coatings during isothermal oxidation, enhancing spallation resistance of oxide scale. The role of Re-based DB and the effects of substrate compositions were discussed.

Influence of Ta/Al ratio on the microstructure and creep property of a Ru-containing Ni-based single-crystal superalloy

Wei Song et al.

Summary: The study found that increasing the Ta/Al ratio can prolong the creep life of the alloy, mainly due to the extension of the primary and second creep stages and the reduction of the minimum creep rate. The performance of the alloy in the tertiary creep stage is closely related to the Ta/Al ratio and the formation of cracks.

Effect of the Pt concentration on microstructures of Ti-Pt alloys using the first-principles phase field method

Thi Nu Pham et al.

Summary: The effect of Pt concentration on microstructures of Ti-Pt alloys was studied using the first-principles phase field method. Increasing Pt concentration led to drastic changes in the microstructure of the alloys. Microstructures were lamellar- or wavy-shaped when Pt concentration was less than 10 wt%, and spot-like Ti3Pt precipitates appeared in alpha-Ti phases with lamellar- or wavy-shaped patterns at 15 and 20 wt% Pt concentration.
