Bayesian multiple index models for environmental mixtures

Glen McGee et al.

Summary: An important goal of environmental health research is to assess the risk posed by mixtures of environmental exposures. This paper proposes a Bayesian multiple index model framework that combines response-surface methods and exposure-index methods, allowing for non-linear and non-additive relationships between exposure indices and health outcomes, while reducing dimensionality and estimating index weights with variable selection.

Modeling the effects of multiple exposures with unknown group memberships: a Bayesian latent variable approach

Alexis Zavez et al.

Summary: A Bayesian latent variable model is proposed to estimate the relationships between an outcome and latent exposure variables. The model uses data from multiple observed exposures and assumes that each latent variable is represented by multiple exposures. The model accurately classifies measured exposures into latent groups and estimates model parameters with little bias.

Assessment of Grouped Weighted Quantile Sum Regression for Modeling Chemical Mixtures and Cancer Risk

David C. Wheeler et al.

Summary: This study highlights the importance of evaluating multiple chemical exposures in identifying cancer risk factors. The GWQS regression method proves to be effective in estimating exposure effects for multiple chemical groups and correctly identifying important chemicals, showing favorable performance compared to other methods used in mixture analysis. The method was applied in the California Childhood Leukemia Study, revealing a positive association between exposure to the herbicide dacthal and an increased risk of childhood leukemia.
