Glutathione S-Transferase Genes are Involved in Lambda-Cyhalothrin Resistance in Cydia pomonella via Sequestration

Chao Hu et al.

Summary: This study reports the involvement of GSTs in lambda-cyhalothrin resistance in the globally quarantined fruit pest Cydia pomonella. Most GST genes were upregulated in response to exposure to lambda-cyhalothrin, and their mRNA levels were considerably higher in a resistant population compared to susceptible strains. Recombinant CpGSTd3 was found to have the highest metabolic rate for lambda-cyhalothrin, supporting the role of GSTs in sequestration of the insecticide.

Green Leaf Volatile Trans-2-Hexenal Inhibits the Growth of Fusarium graminearum by Inducing Membrane Damage, ROS Accumulation, and Cell Dysfunction

Dicheng Ma et al.

Summary: This study investigates the biological activity and mode of action of trans-2-hexenal (T2H) against Fusarium graminearum, the main agent of Fusarium head blight (FHB). It was found that T2H can inhibit F. graminearum growth by multiple mechanisms and can be used as a biofumigant to control FHB occurrence in the field.

Biological Activity of trans-2-Hexenal Against the Storage Insect Pest Tribolium castaneum (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) and Mycotoxigenic Storage Fungi

Kaidi Cui et al.

Summary: The study found that trans-2-hexenal has weak repellent effect on Tribolium castaneum but favorable insecticidal activity against multiple developmental stages of the pest. In addition, trans-2-hexenal completely inhibited the growth of commonly occurring storage fungi such as Fusarium graminearum, Aspergillus flavus, and Aspergillus niger. The promising biological activity of trans-2-hexenal against both pests and pathogens suggests its potential for reducing pesticide resistance risks in grains.

Identification of Candidate Carboxylesterases Associated With Odorant Degradation in Holotrichia parallela Antennae Based on Transcriptome Analysis

Jiankun Yi et al.

Summary: In this study, 20 candidate CXEs were identified in Holotrichia parallela, with some showing antenna-biased expression. The differential expression of CXEs in male and female antennae implies potential roles in odorant degradation, providing insights into the olfactory mechanism of H. parallela.

Identification and Characterization of an Antennae-Specific Glutathione S-Transferase From the Indian Meal Moth

Hongmin Liu et al.

Summary: Insect glutathione-S-transferases (GSTs) are essential in metabolizing compounds and some GSTs uniquely expressed in antennae are involved in odorant detection. A study on Indian meal moth revealed 17 putative GSTs, with PiGSTd1 identified as antennae-specific. Enzyme assays showed PiGSTd1 efficiently degrades sex pheromones and aldehyde volatiles.
