Non-targeted metabolomic analysis of the variations in the metabolites of two genotypes of Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch. under drought stress

Qianqian Zhang et al.

Summary: This study applied non-targeted metabolomic technology to comparatively investigate the metabolite changes under different degrees of drought stress in licorice. The research found that drought stress affected the growth and antioxidant enzyme activities of licorice roots, disrupted amino acid and flavonoid metabolism pathways, and showed differences in metabolic responses between genotypes under drought stress. The study provided new insights into the biochemical pathways of licorice in response to drought stress and laid a foundation for improving its medicinal value.

Using Metabolomics to Identify the Exposure and Functional Biomarkers of Ginger

Daniel Esquivel-Alvarado et al.

Summary: Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS)-based metabolomics is an important tool for studying the impact of diet on human health. However, the availability of mass spectral libraries for dietary metabolites is limited, making it challenging to derive biological insights from mass spectrometry data. This study demonstrates the significance of dietary libraries by constructing an LC-MS/MS ginger library and identifying ginger metabolites that can serve as biomarkers for ginger consumption. The results highlight the impact of ginger treatment on the endogenous metabolome and emphasize the importance of LC-MS/MS spectra dietary libraries in identifying potential dietary biomarkers and understanding the health benefits associated with food consumption.

Untargeted metabolomics predicts the functional outcome of ischemic stroke

Nai-Fang Chi et al.

Summary: This study identified differential metabolites in the blood of patients with acute ischemic stroke, and found potential value in predicting outcomes. Platelet activating factor (PAF) was the most strongly associated metabolite with outcomes. Metabolomics may be a promising method to explore blood biomarkers for acute ischemic stroke.

Amentoflavone as an Ally in the Treatment of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis: Analysis of Its Antioxidant/Prooxidant Mechanisms

Yasmin Silva Rizk et al.

Summary: Treatment of leishmaniasis is challenging due to limited chemotherapy options with toxicity and adverse effects. The research on antileishmanial activity of amentoflavone, a biflavonoid derived from plant, showed promising results in reducing parasite load and affecting inflammatory markers in mice infected with L. amazonensis. Amentoflavone demonstrated potential as a treatment for cutaneous leishmaniasis by balancing inflammatory and anti-inflammatory responses at the infection site.

Ethnobotanical Study on Garcinia (Clusiaceae) in China

Fengke Lin et al.

Summary: The genus Garcinia L. (Clusiaceae) has significant ethnobotanical and pharmacological importance globally, particularly in China where it has been used for various purposes including traditional medicine and food. Despite this long history of use, comprehensive ethnobotanical studies are limited. Chinese people have gained traditional knowledge regarding Garcinia plants, including their use in various aspects such as food, medicine, ornamental trees, construction, and culture. However, concerns arising from socio-economic changes have been identified, and strategies are needed for conservation of both traditional botanical knowledge and plants.
