Transcriptomics and metabolomics reveal the possible mechanism by which 1-methylcyclopropene regulates the postharvest senescence of Zizania latifolia

Mohamed Hawali Bata Gouda et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that 1-MCP treatment maintained the visual appearance, preserved cell structure and membrane integrity of Zizania latifolia during postharvest storage by influencing the expression of membrane-related enzymes and phosphatidylethanolamine levels. Additionally, 1-MCP treatment enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity, reduced reactive oxygen species and malondialdehyde contents, and inhibited oxidative damage. Furthermore, 1-MCP delayed senescence of Z. latifolia by downregulating ethylene biosynthesis-related genes and promoting the expression of various other genes and metabolites.

Transcriptomics and metabolomics reveal the possible mechanism by which 1-methylcyclopropene regulates the postharvest senescence of Zizania latifolia

Mohamed Hawali Bata Gouda et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanism underlying the postharvest senescence of Zizania latifolia and the effect of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) treatment during storage. The results showed that 1-MCP treatment could preserve the visual appearance, cell structure, and membrane integrity of Z. latifolia. It also enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities, inhibited oxidative damage and loss of membrane integrity, and delayed the senescence of Z. latifolia by regulating gene expression and promoting the activity of ATP biosynthesis-related genes and metabolites.

Suppression on postharvest juice sac granulation and cell wall modification by chitosan treatment in harvested pummelo (Citrus grandis L. Osbeck) stored at room temperature

Chuying Chen et al.

Summary: Chitosan coating has been proven to effectively suppress juice sac granulation and fruit senescence in pummelo fruits, by inhibiting lignin synthesis-related enzymes and enhancing the activities of cell wall degrading enzymes, ultimately maintaining cell wall modification and fruit quality.

Comparative transcriptome analysis provides insight into nitric oxide suppressing lignin accumulation of postharvest okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) during cold storage

Miao Sun et al.

Summary: Nitric oxide plays a crucial role in improving cold stress resistance in okra by inhibiting lignin accumulation and delaying lignification, promoting endogenous NO biosynthesis, reducing ethylene and ABA content, and protecting the plant from cold stress damage.

Production of reactive oxygen species by PuRBOHF is critical for stone cell development in pear fruit

Xiaoqian Wang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the essential role of PuRBOHF-mediated ROS production in monolignol polymerization and stone cell formation in pear fruit, which is closely related to PuMYB169 regulation of PuRBOHF expression. Inhibiting RBOH activity can suppress ROS accumulation and stone cell lignification. There are stage-specific differences in PuRBOHF expression between flesh cells and stone cells.

Melatonin treatment maintains quality and delays lignification in loquat fruit during cold storage

Dan Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that MT treatment can reduce weight loss and firmness decline in loquat fruit during cold storage, while maintaining the sweetness of the fruit. MT also increases the content of phenolic compounds and organic acids in the fruit, as well as enhancing antioxidant capacity. Additionally, MT treatment regulates the activities of lignin biosynthesis-related enzymes.
