Prevalence of mental disorders in school children and adolescents in China: diagnostic data from detailed clinical assessments of 17,524 individuals

Fenghua Li et al.

Summary: This study is the largest national-scale psychiatric epidemiological survey of children and adolescents in China, revealing a high prevalence of any psychiatric disorder. Significant differences in prevalence were observed based on gender, age, and region, with comorbidity between different disorders.

Attenuated niacin skin flushing response in children and adolescents with mental disorders: A transdiagnostic early warning marker

Ying Qing et al.

Summary: Mental disorders are a major cause of disability in children and adolescents globally, but there is a lack of objective biomarkers for early identification or diagnosis. This study provides the first evidence that niacin skin flushing response (NSFR) could be a potential transdiagnostic marker in pediatric patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depressive disorder, and autism spectrum disorder. The research suggests that NSFR is blunted in pediatric SZ, BD, and DD, and is distinct in ASD. These findings have important implications for identifying subgroups of patients and early identification of affective disorders from ASD.

Attenuated and delayed niacin skin flushing in schizophrenia and affective disorders: A potential clinical auxiliary diagnostic marker

Dan-Dan Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that niacin-induced skin flushing is commonly blunted in patients with schizophrenia or affective disorders, showing promise as an auxiliary diagnostic marker. By establishing an innovative bivariate cutoff, patients with either condition could be identified from healthy controls with relatively high sensitivity and specificity.
