Effect of a Biopsychosocial Intervention or Postural Therapy on Disability and Health Care Spending Among Patients With Acute and Subacute Spine Pain: The SPINE CARE Randomized Clinical Trial

Niteesh K. Choudhry et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of two interventions that emphasize noninvasive care for spine pain. The results showed that among patients with acute or subacute spine pain, a multidisciplinary biopsychosocial intervention or an individualized postural therapy intervention, compared with usual care, resulted in small but statistically significant reductions in pain-related disability at 3 months.

Effectiveness of placebo interventions for patients with nonspecific low back pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Rob H. W. Strijkers et al.

Summary: This systematic review found that placebo interventions were more effective than no intervention at short-term follow-up in patients with chronic LBP, but the effects were likely not clinically relevant. Future research should focus on identifying effect modifiers and causal mechanisms explaining the short-term effects of placebo interventions in patients with chronic LBP.

Stratified care to prevent chronic low back pain in high-risk patients: The TARGET trial. A multi-site pragmatic cluster randomized trial

Anthony Delitto et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of a stratified care approach on the transition to chronic low back pain and self-reported disability in patients with acute low back pain. Results showed that although the intervention group had an advantage in recommending physical therapy, it did not reduce the rate of transition to chronic low back pain. Additionally, opioid and imaging prescribing rates were found to be inconsistent with clinical guidelines.
