Left atrial appendage sealing performance of the Amplatzer Amulet and Watchman FLX device

Kasper Korsholm et al.

Summary: This study compared the left atrial appendage (LAA) sealing properties of two devices, Amplatzer Amulet and Watchman FLX, using cardiac computed tomography (CT) follow-up. The results showed that the Watchman FLX device achieved a significantly higher rate of complete LAA occlusion compared to the Amplatzer Amulet device. The FLX group also had smaller visible leaks. Further studies with clinical outcomes are needed to better understand the differences in device design.

Left atrial appendage occlusion vs novel oral anticoagulation for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation: rationale and design of the multicenter randomized occlusion-AF trial

Kasper Korsholm et al.

Summary: The Occlusion-AF trial aims to compare left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) with novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) in reducing the combined endpoint of stroke, systemic embolism, major bleeding, and all-cause mortality in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and a recent ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA).

Amplatzer Amulet Left Atrial Appendage Occluder Versus Watchman Device for Stroke Prophylaxis (Amulet IDE): A Randomized, Controlled Trial

Dhanunjaya Lakkireddy et al.

Summary: The Amulet occluder was found to be noninferior to the Watchman device in terms of safety and effectiveness for stroke prevention among patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, and was superior in terms of left atrial appendage occlusion. However, procedure-related complications were higher with the Amulet occluder and decreased with operator experience.
