Characterisation of binary mixtures of pellets and sinter for DEM simulations

Arijit Chakrabarty et al.

Summary: This study presents a methodology to determine input parameters for discrete element method (DEM) simulations in order to study the distribution of ferrous burden in blast furnace. The methodology successfully characterizes the mixture of pellets and sinter and achieves a good match with experimental results through angle of repose experiments and DEM simulations.

Model Study of Centre Coke Charging in Blast Furnace through DEM Simulations

Arijit Chakrabarty et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of placing center coke in the blast furnace using the discrete element method (DEM) to improve furnace operation. It is found that stiffeners on the chute impact material trajectory, with higher material concentration and lower scatter at lower chute inclination angles. The study determines the optimum operating angle for heap formation of the material.
