Minimally invasive internal fixation for unstable pelvic ring fractures: a retrospective study of 27 cases

Minimally invasive posterior locked compression plate osteosynthesis shows excellent results in elderly patients with fragility fractures of the pelvis

Summary: The study evaluated the clinical outcome of using a minimally invasive posterior locked compression plate (MIPLCP) as a therapeutic alternative for fragility fractures of the pelvis (FFP) in older patients. It showed that MIPLCP osteosynthesis is a safe surgical option for FFP 3 and FFP 4 patients, with relatively low complication rates and good functional outcomes. Postoperative complications were noted in 17% of patients, with a mortality rate of 1 patient due to pneumonia. The treatment allowed a majority of patients to return to their previous living situations, with positive pain levels and IOWA Pelvic Scores at follow-up.
