Study on flow and heat transfer characteristics of phase change synergistic combination finned liquid cooling plate

Furen Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a new liquid cooling plate design approach for battery thermal management system to enhance heat transfer performance, achieve a more uniform temperature distribution, and meet lightweight design requirements. The approach combines primary and secondary fins, synergistic phase change materials, and nanofluid. The study compares and analyzes the thermal and flow characteristics of 10 new improved fin designs, optimizes the model by considering fin size and introducing secondary fins, and discusses the thermal performance under different Reynolds number conditions. The results show significant improvements in temperature reduction and pressure drop, lightweighting effect, and heat dissipation efficiency with the use of phase change materials and nanoparticles.

Optimization design of a parallel air-cooled battery thermal management system with spoilers

Furen Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel cooling strategy by setting spoilers in the airflow distribution plenum of a parallel air-cooling model, aiming to improve the cooling performance of a battery cooling system. Computational fluid dynamics method was used to explore the effects of spoilers on the thermal behaviors of a battery thermal management system. The results show that the number, position, angle, and height of spoilers significantly influence the heat dissipation performance of the battery pack. Adjusting these parameters can effectively enhance the cooling performance.

Thermal and flow performance in microchannel heat sink with open-ring fins

Long Zeng et al.

Summary: A unique microchannel heat sink design with inline and staggered open-ring pin fins was developed for high heat flux devices. The open-ring pin fins induced flow separations and convergences, leading to enhanced heat transfer performance. The staggered configuration showed slightly better heat transfer performance than the inline configuration, making it more favorable for heat dissipation in high heat flux devices.
