Tribology and rheology of water-in-water emulsions stabilized by whey protein microgels

Kwan-Mo You et al.

Summary: This study investigated the microstructural, tribological, and rheological properties of water-in-water emulsion droplets stabilized by proteinaceous microgel particles. The results showed that the microgel-stabilized emulsions exhibited higher apparent viscosity and lower friction coefficient, indicating their potential application in improving the lubrication performance of such systems.

Relationship between sensorial and physical characteristics of topical creams: A comparative study on effects of excipients

A. Ali et al.

Summary: This study focused on exploring the impact of different excipients on the sensorial and physical properties of topical products, revealing that variations in emollients, thickeners, and surfactant composition result in differences in sensory and rheological properties. Furthermore, significant differences were observed in afterfeel perception between surfactant-based creams and Pickering creams, with starch particles on the skin leading to higher tactile friction and lower perception of residue coating, stickiness, greasiness, and slipperiness.

Stabilization of amylopectin-pullulan water in water emulsions by Interacting protein particles

Joao P. E. Machado et al.

Summary: The stability and morphology of water-in-water emulsions vary under different pH conditions due to the gradual adsorption changes of MG. In some cases, stable weak emulsion gels are formed, while in others, droplets remain dispersed in the liquid phase. Adding anionic polysaccharides influences the interaction between MG, affecting the stability and morphology of the emulsions.

Tactile friction of topical creams and emulsions: Friction measurements on excised skin and VitroSkin® using ForceBoard™

A. Ali et al.

Summary: Tactile perception was investigated through ex vivo friction measurements using a ForceBoard (TM), providing objective assessments and cost and time savings compared to subjective human panel. The study aimed to compare excised skin and VitroSkin (R) as model substrates for tactile friction measurements and to investigate the effects of different substrates on the results. The results showed that the difference in tactile friction between the two substrates was small on untreated surfaces, but varied over time due to the difference in surface structure. The study also found differences between surfactant-based creams and Pickering creams, indicating that the latter is greasier. It was shown that Pickering emulsions had consistently high tactile friction even with high amounts of oil, suggesting a non-greasy formulation.

Asma Sharkawy et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of the degree of deacetylation of chitosan on the properties of chitosan/gum Arabic particles and Pickering emulsions. The formulation with higher degree of deacetylation showed higher stability and smaller emulsion droplet size. There was no significant difference in the absorption of cannabidiol between the two formulations.

ZnO nanoparticles-laden cellulose nanofibers-armored Pickering emulsions with improved UV protection and water resistance

Duho Lee et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel Pickering emulsion system utilizing hydrophobically modified ZnO composite cellulose nanofibers (HCNFZnO) to enhance UV-blocking and water-resisting performance. The HCNFZnO favored the formation of a stable Pickering emulsion at the oil-water interface, showing synergistic UV-blocking performance and significant resistance to repeated water rinsing. The results highlight the potential of HCNFZnO in developing UV-blocking emulsion systems with excellent water resistance without traditional emulsifiers.
