Development of dissolvable microneedle patches by CNC machining and micromolding for drug delivery

Atefeh Malek-Khatabi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the use of computer numerical control (CNC) machining and micromolding for the fabrication of dissolvable microneedles (DMNs) for drug delivery. The master molds were created using CNC machining, and DMNs embedded with a fluorescent dye were produced through a simple micromolding process. The mechanical strength and drug diffusion of the DMNs were evaluated, revealing their capability to penetrate the skin and deliver therapeutic cargo. CNC machining offers a rapid and cost-effective method for producing DMNs for transdermal drug delivery.
