Monitoring cone- beam CT radiation dose levels in a University Hospital

Danieli Moura Brasil et al.

Summary: This study collected patient dose levels from different CBCT scanners using an integrated dose monitoring tool, and found that dose levels were related to FOV, operation mode, and patient age. The study showed significant variations in dose levels between different systems and operation modes, and the selection of FOV size was also indication-oriented.

Craniofacial changes from 13 to 62 years of age

Nameer Al-Taai et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the craniofacial changes in untreated subjects with normal occlusion from the age of 13 to 62. The results showed that the jaws undergo growth and retrognathism, and there are changes in anterior face height, jaw dimensions, mandible rotation, incisor inclination, and facial profile.

Two decades of research on CBCT imaging in DMFR - an appraisal of scientific evidence

Hugo Gaeta-Araujo et al.

Summary: The research on CBCT has shown an increasing trend in recent years, with a focus on clinical applications and technical parameters. Not all CBCT models have been scientifically validated, caution should be taken when generalizing the results of the studies.

Radiobiological risks following dentomaxillofacial imaging: should we be concerned?

Niels Belmans et al.

Summary: The review highlighted the challenges in radiobiological studies in diagnostic dentomaxillofacial radiology, with a focus on genotoxicity and cytotoxicity. Limited evidence is available for CBCT, particularly in terms of comparative data between adults and children. Future research should aim for personalized radioprotection strategies based on individual factors such as age, gender, and radiation sensitivity.
