Study of underwater explosion near rigid cylinder column with numerical method

Lingquan Li et al.

Summary: In this paper, a finite volume method with a five-equation model is implemented for multi-fluid simulations. The numerical model considers air, water, and high-explosive materials as compressible fluids. The equations of state for the fluids are written in a general formulation. The method is validated through one-dimensional detonation, TNT ignition in water, explosion near a rigid cylinder, and underwater explosions near a rigid cylinder in a partially filled tank.

Fully compressible multiphase model for computation of compressible fluid flows with large density ratio and the presence of shock waves

Van-Tu Nguyen et al.

Summary: We propose a fully compressible multiphase model for simulating compressible interfacial flows. The model is based on the typical conservation laws for mixtures and is solved using a high-resolution shock-capturing finite-volume method. It can maintain sharp interfaces and achieve high accuracy, conservation properties, and thermodynamic consistency.

A vertex-centered finite volume method with interface sharpening technique for compressible two-phase flows

Lingquan Li et al.

Summary: In this paper, a robust and efficient finite volume method with interface sharpening technique is proposed to solve the six-equation multi-fluid single-pressure model for compressible two-phase flows. The performance of the method is evaluated through benchmark test cases, demonstrating its accuracy and efficiency.

Numerical modeling for compressible two-phase flows and application to near-field underwater explosions

Van-Tu Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study introduces an accurate shock- and interface-capturing method to simulate compressible multiphase flows with shockwaves using curvilinear body-fitted structured grids. By enhancing a five-equation model proficient in capturing unsteady shocks in compressible multiphase flows and developing a new eigensystem for conservation laws/Godunov-type finite volume scheme, strong shocks were effectively captured and analyzed. The results show good agreement with experimental data, indicating high impacts of primary blast waves on structures in complex scenarios.

Reconstructed discontinuous Galerkin methods for compressible flows based on a new hyperbolic Navier-Stokes system

Lingquan Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a new hyperbolic Navier-Stokes system is proposed, introducing gradients as auxiliary variables and developing efficient reconstructed Galerkin methods. By recycling gradient variables, higher order polynomial solutions for primary variables can be obtained without increasing degrees of freedom. Numerical experiments demonstrate that the developed methods can achieve the designed accuracy and provide an attractive alternative for solving the compressible Navier-Stokes equations.
