Parametric analysis of the effects of blade exit angle on the cavitation characteristics in a hydraulic torque converter

Meng Guo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of pump and turbine blade exit angles on the cavitation characteristics and flow field in a hydraulic torque converter. The results show that increasing the blade exit angles promotes cavitation generation and intensification, while reducing the angles suppresses cavitation and improves performance.

Effect of blade curve shape on the hydraulic performance and pressure pulsation of a pump as turbine

Ru Xiang et al.

Summary: This paper studies the operational stability of a pump as turbine (PAT) by comparing a forward-curved impeller and a back-curved impeller in terms of their characteristics, energy loss, and pressure pulsation under different flow rates. The results show that the forward-curved impeller outperforms the back-curved impeller in terms of hydraulic performance and pressure pulsation reduction.

Lightweight design of the transonic centrifugal impeller based on fluid-structure coupling

Huanjun Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a semi-open supersonic centrifugal impeller was redesigned based on Tsai-Wu failure theory and two-way fluid-structure coupling method. The impeller was optimized in terms of material lightweight, composite material layering, and tip clearance, resulting in reduced stress and vibration deformation, improved pressure ratio, and more stable flow field. The research findings provide a basis for the application of composite materials in centrifugal impellers.

Unsteady flow characteristics in centrifugal pump based on proper orthogonal decomposition method

Zhengchuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study has established a hybrid Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes/large eddy simulations method based on the von Karman scale and the correction of the rotation curvature to investigate the complex flow characteristics and energy distribution of flow structures in a centrifugal pump. The results show that factors such as flow separation and pressure fluctuations can affect the hydraulic performance of the centrifugal pump.

Coupling response of flow-induced oscillating cylinder with a pair of flow-induced rotating impellers

Hongjun Zhu et al.

Summary: This study proposed an innovative device to transform the active control of rotating rods to passive control using a pair of impellers, and analyzed the coupled response of a VIV circular cylinder with impellers. The introduction of passively rotating impellers significantly augmented in-line and cross-flow responses. While secondary vortex streets were observed in the entire U-r range, the number of merged vortices for the formation of secondary vortex streets varied with U-r.
