Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase 1B (PTP1B): Insights into its new Implications in Tumorigenesis

Pei-Jie Chen et al.

Summary: Tyrosine phosphorylation is a reversible process regulated by protein tyrosine kinases and phosphatases. Abnormalities in these proteins, such as PTP1B, can contribute to the development of diseases including cancer. Recent studies have shown that PTP1B plays an important role in cancer initiation and progression, making it a potential target for cancer therapies. This review focuses on the functions and pharmacological effects of PTP1B in different types of cancer.

Synthesis, In Vitro, and Computational Studies of PTP1B Phosphatase Inhibitors Based on Oxovanadium(IV) and Dioxovanadium(V) Complexes

Tomasz Kostrzewa et al.

Summary: One of the main goals of recent bioinorganic chemistry studies is to develop new substances for treating human diseases. This study focuses on the potential anticancer activity of vanadium-based compounds, specifically their inhibitory effect on PTP1B. The researchers synthesized five complexes and observed that they effectively inhibited PTP1B and exhibited anticancer activity.

Interaction of vanadium metal complexes with protein tyrosine phosphatase-1B enzyme along with identification of active site of enzyme by molecular modeling

Ayub Shaik et al.

Summary: Evidence suggests that inhibition of the PTP-1B enzyme can address both diabetes and obesity, with vanadium compounds having an inhibitory effect on PTP-1B. By synthesizing and characterizing various vanadium metal complexes, this study demonstrated their ability to act as inhibitors on the enzyme PTP-1B, reducing serum glucose levels. The results of fluorescence spectroscopy, binding parameters evaluation, IC50 values, and molecular modeling consistently support the potential of these vanadium complexes as effective inhibitors for PTP-1B.
