Optical Study of Solvatochromic Isocyanoaminoanthracene Dyes and 1,5-Diaminoanthracene

Miklos Nagy et al.

Summary: Isocyanoaminoarenes are a versatile group of fluorophores with potential applications in various fields. This paper presents the preparation and optical study of a novel isocyano derivative and its variations. The conversion of one amino group into an isocyano group greatly enhanced the polar character of the dyes, resulting in improved solvatochromism and reduced fluorescence in polar solvents.

Isocyanide and Cyanide Entities Form Isostructural Halogen Bond- Based Supramolecular Networks Featuring Five-Center Tetrafurcated Halogen...C/N Bonding

Alexander S. Mikherdov et al.

Summary: In this study, two isostructural cocrystals were synthesized, revealing the similarity of halogen bond donors in their accepting role. The similarity and unique bonding features of the halogen bonds were further verified by theoretical calculations. Additionally, the study observed for the first time a tetrafurcated halogen bond involving four disunited acceptors.

Potential Original Drug for Aspergillosis: In Vitro and In Vivo Effects of 1-N,N-Dimethylamino-5-Isocyanonaphthalene (DIMICAN) on Aspergillus fumigatus

Zsuzsa Mathene Szigeti et al.

Summary: This study tested the antifungal effects of ICAN derivatives on Aspergillus fumigatus, and found that the diisocyanide (DIN) showed the best results. However, its practical applicability is limited due to poor water solubility. Another derivative, 1-N, N-dimethylamino-5-isocyanonaphthalene (DIMICAN), also exhibited good antifungal effects and showed better results than amphotericin B in an animal model, suggesting its potential as a clinical drug candidate.

Developing luminescent ratiometric thermometers based on copolymers containing Platinum(II) isocyanide complex

Na Zhou et al.

Summary: Luminescent platinum(II) small molecules have unique properties due to Pt(II)-Pt(II) interaction, while the incorporation of Pt(II) into polymers is still in early stages. In this study, random copolymers were synthesized using ROMP method, showing enhanced Pt(II)-Pt(II) interaction and intense low-energy emissions. The photophysical properties of the polymers were highly dependent on solvents and Pt(II) content, with one polymer successfully demonstrated as a self-referenced luminescent thermometer.

Dithienylethene-bridged gold(I) isocyanide complexes: Synthesis, photochromism and turn-on fluorescent switching behavior

Tao Lu et al.

Summary: The development of novel photochromic complexes based on dithienylethene is highly desirable for potential applications in photoresponsive optoelectronics. In this study, four novel dithienylethene-bridged gold(I) isocyanide complexes were designed and prepared, showing good photochromic behavior and unusual fluorescent switching characteristics. These complexes have the potential to be used as fluorescent switches in smart optoelectronic materials.

Isocyanide Substitution in Acridine Orange Shifts DNA Damage-Mediated Phototoxicity to Permeabilization of the Lysosomal Membrane in Cancer Cells

Csaba Banko et al.

Summary: Immunogenic cell death is more efficient in eliminating tumor cells in cancer therapy compared to traditional apoptosis. During photodynamic therapy, photosensitizers targeting lysosomes can shift apoptosis towards more immunologically relevant necrosis-like cell death. A new compound, DM, modified from AO, shows improved lysosomal targeting ability. DM facilitates the occurrence of immunological cell death, potentially enhancing the efficacy of PDT.

Medicinal Chemistry of Isocyanides

Alberto Massarotti et al.

Summary: Isocyanides, with their metal coordinating properties, have carved out a niche in ecological systems through evolution. Despite their potential biological activity, medicinal chemists have been skeptical of isocyanides due to concerns about reactivity and stability. This review aims to showcase the rich biological activity of isocyanide-containing molecules and advocate for their consideration in future drug design.

Estimation of absorption spectral shifts of cyano biphenyl liquid crystals: An impact of different solvents and oxygen substitution

P. Lakshmi Praveen

Summary: The electronic origins of two nematic liquid crystals under different solvent and oxygen substitution conditions have been studied, with analysis of changes in absorption maxima, extinction coefficient, energy band gap, photosensitivity, and conductivity. The alterations in optical and electrochemical properties due to solvent-specific effects have been discussed for wavelength tunable device and light modulation applications.

Genomic and Phenotypic Analysis of COVID-19-Associated Pulmonary Aspergillosis Isolates of Aspergillus fumigatus

Jacob L. Steenwyk et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the genomes and phenotypic profiles of four COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis (CAPA) isolates of Aspergillus fumigatus from patients in Germany, finding that these isolates were generally similar to other reference strains, but with some variations in virulence due to gene mutations. These findings contribute to expanding our understanding of COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis.
