Mechanisms of Melatonin in Obesity: A Review

Qingyun Guan et al.

Summary: This review discusses the role of melatonin in regulating obesity-related symptoms and explores its underlying mechanisms. Melatonin plays an important role in regulating energy metabolism and antioxidant defense, and it may affect obesity through various pathways such as modulation of lipid profile, adipose tissue, and inflammation. Melatonin shows promising potential in the intervention of obesity.

Neurodegeneration, Neuroprotection and Regeneration in the Zebrafish Retina

Salvatore L. Stella et al.

Summary: Neurodegenerative retinal diseases lead to gradual loss of retinal neurons, requiring neuroprotective or regenerative strategies for treatment. Zebrafish, due to their similar eye structure and development to mammals, are commonly used as a model for studying these diseases.

HO-1-mediated ferroptosis as a target for protection against retinal pigment epithelium degeneration

Zhimin Tang et al.

Summary: Research has identified that oxidative stress-induced RPE degeneration is mainly regulated by HO-1-mediated ferroptosis, controlled by the Nrf2-SLC7A11-HO-1 pathway. In mouse experiments, inhibiting HO-1 can block RPE ferroptosis, and using the HO-1 inhibitor ZnPP effectively rescues RPE degeneration with superior therapeutic effects. This highlights that targeting HO-1-mediated RPE ferroptosis could serve as an effective retinal-protective strategy for preventing retinal degenerative diseases, including AMD.

Effects of prenatal photobiomodulation treatment on neonatal hypoxic ischemia in rat offspring

Luodan Yang et al.

Summary: Prenatal PBM treatment significantly improves neonatal rat survival rate, reduces infarct size, and alleviates cortex and hippocampus-related behavioral deficits caused by HI injury. Additionally, PBM treatment protects mitochondrial function and integrity, and reduces neuroinflammation and oxidative stress induced by HI insult.
