Identification of distinct cytotoxic granules as the origin of supramolecular attack particles in T lymphocytes

Hsin-Fang Chang et al.

Summary: In this study, we used a new method to isolate and observe the fusion of cytotoxic granules in CTLs. We found two classes of fusion-competent granules that release different types of cytotoxic proteins during fusion. These findings reveal the mechanism by which CTLs kill target cells.

Phagocyte-mediated synapse removal in cortical neuroinflammation is promoted by local calcium accumulation

Mehrnoosh Jafari et al.

Summary: Synapse loss in the cortex is a key pathological feature in multiple sclerosis, which contributes to chronic cognitive impairment. Gray matter inflammation affects neuronal structure and function, and targeting synapse loss through immunomodulatory therapy could be a potential treatment strategy.

Capturing T Lymphocytes' Dynamic Interactions With Human Neural Cells Using Time-Lapse Microscopy

Florent Lemaitre et al.

Summary: The study revealed that CD8(+) T lymphocytes exhibit more active and exploratory behavior when interacting with astrocytes compared to neurons. In conditions simulating in vivo inflammation, the motility of CD8(+) T lymphocytes significantly increased. By tracking CD8(+) T cell behavior, distinct interactions such as scanning, dancing, poking, and round were identified, with different responses observed in the presence of inflammation and MHC class I blockade.
