Minimally invasive selective caries removal: a clinical guide

Zi En Lim et al.

Summary: An improved understanding of carious process and adhesive restorative materials has led to a more conservative and minimally invasive approach to managing dental carious lesions. Selective caries excavation technique has shown promising results by preventing excessive tooth structure removal and maintaining pulp vitality. However, the limited availability of high-quality evidence has hindered its widespread use in clinical practice. This clinical technique guide aims to provide an evidence-based approach for managing moderate-to-deep carious lesions in permanent teeth.

Impact of silanization of different bioactive glasses in simplified adhesives on degree of conversion, dentin bonding and collagen remineralization

Tainah Oliveira Rifane et al.

Summary: The objective of this study is to analyze the effects of simplified adhesives containing pure or silanized bioglass 45S5 or Sr-45S5 fillers on dentin. The results showed that the incorporation of silanized 45S5 bioglass into the adhesive improved dentin remineralization, bonding performance, and adhesive polymerization. However, the silanized Sr-45S5 compromised the bond strength, interface nanoleakage, and had a negative impact on HYP outcomes.

Physical/mechanical and antibacterial properties of orthodontic adhesives containing Sr-bioactive glass nanoparticles, calcium phosphate, and andrographolide

Wirinrat Chaichana et al.

Summary: This study prepared orthodontic adhesives with added calcium phosphate monohydrate/Sr-bioactive glass nanoparticles and andrographolide, which can promote mineral precipitation and reduce bacterial growth. The additives had an impact on the physical/mechanical properties of the materials, but within an acceptable range.

Effects of Sr/F-Bioactive Glass Nanoparticles and Calcium Phosphate on Monomer Conversion, Biaxial Flexural Strength, Surface Microhardness, Mass/Volume Changes, and Color Stability of Dual-Cured Dental Composites for Core Build-Up Materials

Bharat Mirchandani et al.

Summary: This study prepared composites for core build-up containing Sr/F bioactive glass nanoparticles and monocalcium phosphate monohydrate to prevent dental caries. The additives had some effect on the physical/mechanical properties of the materials, but the results were satisfactory except for color stability.

Summary: This study assessed the chemical/mechanical properties of dental sealants containing strontium-bioactive glass nanoparticles and monocalcium phosphate monohydrate. The experimental sealants showed lower monomer conversion but acceptable mechanical properties compared to commercial materials. The released ions may support remineralizing actions.

Kinetics of ion release from a conventional glass-ionomer cement

John W. Nicholson et al.

Summary: The release kinetics of sodium, silicon, aluminium, calcium, and phosphorus from conventional glass-ionomer dental cement were studied in neutral and acid conditions. The results showed that in acid conditions, all elements were released in greater amounts compared to neutral conditions. Frequent changes of water led to greater release of the elements. The release process occurs in two steps: a rapid initial release followed by a longer secondary release, influenced by diffusion in neutral conditions and erosion in acid conditions.

Methacrylate peak determination and selection recommendations using ATR-FTIR to investigate polymerisation of dental methacrylate mixtures

Antonio H. S. Delgado et al.

Summary: This study compared different peak selection methods for calculating monomer-polymer conversion in polymerisation kinetics using ATR-FTIR systems. The results indicated that the 1320 cm(-1) peak is more suitable for assessing the polymerisation of methacrylates. Variability in results was highly dependent on peak selection, with significant differences observed across different materials and within the same materials using different methods.

Wisitsin Potiprapanpong et al.

Summary: This study successfully prepared RMGICs for pulp protection that can undergo light-activated polymerization without the need for toxic monomers. The experimental RMGICs showed comparable strength but lower cytotoxicity compared to commercial materials, making them potential alternative materials for pulp protection.

Summary: The study aimed to prepare experimental resin-modified glass ionomer cements with low levels of HEMA for pulp protection. The experimental materials showed higher viscosity and microhardness compared to commercial RMGIC, while the SBS was similar. The addition of 5 wt. % HEMA did not significantly affect the properties of the experimental RMGICs.
