Irreversible Electroporation: An Emerging Immunomodulatory Therapy on Solid Tumors

Summary: Irreversible electroporation (IRE) is a non-thermal ablation technique that shows promising safety and efficacy in treating solid tumors. IRE alters cell transmembrane voltage to induce cell death through the formation of membrane defects or pores. However, incomplete ablation and susceptibility to recurrence are major limitations of IRE. Recent studies have demonstrated that IRE can stimulate the release of tumor antigens, triggering an antitumor immune response that inhibits tumor recurrence and metastasis. This review provides an overview of the clinical efficacy of IRE in tumor treatment and highlights the potential of combining IRE with immunotherapy for synergistic treatment effects.

Survival model database of human digestive system cells exposed to electroporation pulses: An in vitro and in silico study

Summary: This study aimed to establish a mathematical survival model database containing cell-specific coefficients from human digestive system cells exposed to electroporation pulses. The results showed that cell viability tended to decrease with stronger electric field strength, longer pulse duration, and more pulse number. However, there were variations in the decreasing tendency among different cell lines. This database is important for predicting cell survival and tissue injury distribution during electroporation-based treatment in the digestive system.
