Tropheryma whipplei, Helicobacter pylori, and Intestinal Protozoal Co-Infections in Italian and Immigrant Populations: A Cross-Sectional Study

Lucia Moro et al.

Summary: This study reports a high co-infection rate of Tropheryma whipplei (TW) and Helicobacter pylori (HP). To reduce the risk of morbidity, clinicians may consider TW-HP molecular screening for patients with suspected HP disease or Whipple's disease, especially those with a travel history.

Intestinal barrier dysfunction mediates Whipple's disease immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS)

Julian Friebel et al.

Summary: This study found that microbial translocation is present in patients with Whipple's disease and immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS). Patients with IRIS showed more pronounced morphological changes in the duodenum before treatment, which improved after therapy. Certain markers in the blood can predict the occurrence of IRIS.

Tropheryma whipplei Intestinal Colonization in Migrant Children, Greece

Sofia Makka et al.

Summary: The study obtained fecal samples from migrant children aged 12 years or below in hotspots in Greece and tested them for Tropheryma whipplei using a quantitative PCR assay. Six genotypes of T. whipplei were identified, including four newly described ones. The findings suggest a high prevalence of T. whipplei in the studied regions.
