Visible-Light-Active N-Doped TiO2 Photocatalysts: Synthesis from TiOSO4, Characterization, and Enhancement of Stability Via Surface Modification

Nikita Kovalevskiy et al.

Summary: This paper describes the chemical engineering aspects of the preparation of highly active and stable nanocomposite photocatalysts based on N-doped TiO2. The synthesis involves the use of titanium oxysulfate as a precursor and ammonia as a precipitant and nitrogen source. The as-prepared N-doped TiO2 exhibits significant oxidation activity for volatile organic compounds under both UV and visible light due to its absorption spectrum. Surface modification with copper species enhances the activity and stability of the photocatalyst. The effects of different preparation conditions on the photocatalytic activity under UV and visible light are discussed.

Electrical tuning effect for Schottky barrier and hot-electron harvest in a plasmonic Au/TiO2 nanostructure

Zhiguang Sun et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates electrical tuning of the Schottky barrier in an Au-nanodisk/TiO2-film structure through a simple three-electrode electrochemical cell, with increased photocurrents at different wavelengths as the applied bias voltage increases. The analysis indicates that the photocurrent is mainly affected by the position of the Schottky barrier maximum, which shifts to the metal-semiconductor interface with increasing voltage, enhancing the collection efficiency of plasmonic hot electrons. Additionally, a conduction band curvature of 0.13 eV was obtained from the fitting, providing a new strategy for facile tuning of the Schottky barrier and hot-electron transfer.
