Mycorrhizal symbiosis-induced abiotic stress mitigation through phosphate transporters in Solanum lycopersicum L

Viktor Szentpeteri et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of AM fungi on tomato plants under water deficit and heat stress and found that AM fungi seemed to mitigate heat and combined stresses through the mediation of the expression of Pht1 family phosphate transporter genes. Results also indicated that Pht1;7 gene may be an AM fungus-inducible phosphate transporter gene.

Genome-Wide In Silico Identification, Structural Analysis, Promoter Analysis, and Expression Profiling of PHT Gene Family in Sugarcane Root under Salinity Stress

Naveenarani Murugan et al.

Summary: In this study, 23 PHT genes were identified in the sugarcane genome and their phylogeny, gene structure, and conserved motifs were analyzed. The results showed that these genes were mainly involved in phosphate ion transport and stress response, with PHT1-1, PHT1-2, and PHT1-3 members showing significant up-regulation under salt stress. Furthermore, the upstream region of PHT genes contained binding sites related to salt and phosphate stress. These findings provide insights into the evolution of sugarcane PHT genes and their role in salt and phosphate stress tolerance.

The fine-tuning of mycorrhizal pathway in sorghum depends on both nitrogen-phosphorus availability and the identity of the fungal partner

Boussageon Raphael et al.

Summary: This study investigated the nutritional interactions between sorghum and two different arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi species, revealing fine-scale differences in the mycorrhizal pathway. The findings provide insights for improving nutrient acquisition efficiency in sorghum and selecting more adaptive plant genotypes.

Shading mediates the response of mycorrhizal maize (Zea mays L.) seedlings under varying levels of phosphorus

Ming Lang et al.

Summary: In this study, shading was found to significantly decrease soluble sugar concentration in the phloem of mycorrhizal maize, leading to a decrease in root biomass under shading conditions. Additionally, mycorrhizal P response decreased with increasing P supply levels. The findings suggest a tight linkage between carbon allocation and P uptake systems in maintaining mycorrhizal functioning in agroecosystems.

Identification and expression analysis of phosphate transporter genes and metabolites in response to phosphate stress in Capsicum annuum

Ilyas Ahmad et al.

Summary: This study reports the identification and homology modelling of phosphate transporter genes in Capsicum species for the first time, revealing gene duplication and high collinearity with tomato and potato. Analysis of fruit transcriptomes and metabolites showed differential expressions of CaPHTs in various tissues and changes in metabolite content under P-stress conditions. The identified CaPHT genes could be a valuable resource for further research on phosphate uptake and homeostasis in Capsicum.

Variation of PHT families adapts salt cress to phosphate limitation under salinity

Sulian Lv et al.

Summary: Salt cress display relatively high phosphate use efficiency in its natural habitat, with Phosphate Transporters playing critical roles in phosphate acquisition and homeostasis. Comparative study of PHT families between salt cress and Arabidopsis revealed more gene copies and divergent transcriptional regulation in salt cress, contributing to its adaptation to salinity and phosphate limitation.

Genome-wide comparative analysis of Mg transporter gene family between Triticum turgidum and Camelina sativa

Sahar Faraji et al.

Summary: Magnesium plays important roles in biochemical processes, membrane stability, and enzyme activity. Mg transporters (MGTs) are essential for maintaining Mg homeostasis in cells. This study identified and compared non-redundant putative MGT proteins in Camelina sativa and Triticum turgidum, showing similarities in structure and conserved motifs distribution. The analysis revealed diverse tissue-specific expression and stress response patterns for MGT genes, along with co-expressed genes involved in various biological processes.

Phosphate Suppression of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Symbiosis Involves Gibberellic Acid Signaling

Eva Nouri et al.

Summary: This study explores the impact of phosphate (P-i) on the symbiotic relationship between plants and fungi, revealing that P-i may interfere with AM symbiosis via the phytohormone gibberellic acid (GA). Using Solanaceous model plants, it was found that GA-defective plants significantly affected the colonization of AM fungi, and exogenous phosphate had less inhibitory effect on these plants. The findings provide insights into potential targets for crop breeding to reduce P suppression of AM symbiosis and reconcile the benefits of P-i fertilization with AM symbiosis.
