Superhydrophobic Modification of Sansevieria trifasciata Natural Fibres: A Promising Reinforcement for Wood Plastic Composites

YanzurMohd Aref et al.

Summary: In this study, silica nanoparticles and fluorosilane were used to modify the surface of Sansevieria trifasciata fibre (STF) and achieve superhydrophobic properties. The results showed that nanoscale SiO2 particles were deposited on the STF surface and linked to PFOTS, resulting in a hydrophilic to superhydrophobic transformation of the fibre. This non-toxic and simple method opens new opportunities for natural fibres as reinforcement materials in composites.
