High-order harmonics generation in nanosecond-pulses-induced plasma containing Ni-doped CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals using chirp-free and chirped femtosecond pulses

Srinivasa Rao Konda et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates high-order harmonic generation and analyzes the harmonic properties by ablating nickel-doped CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals using different types of pulses. The presence of nickel dopants and CsPbBr3 plasma components improves the emission of harmonics, and the spectral shift of harmonics generated from nickel-doped CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals can be used to form tunable extreme ultraviolet sources.

Layer-Dependent Nonlinear Optical Properties of WS2, MoS2, and Bi2S3 Films Synthesized by Chemical Vapor Deposition

Chunhui Lu et al.

Summary: Two-dimensional layered materials exhibit layer-dependent optical properties in nonlinear optics due to complex nonlinear absorption processes, which are difficult to understand. Experimental results show that the nonlinear optical properties of chalcogenide compounds are related to both pump intensity and layer number, with saturable absorption occurring in thick samples and reverse saturable absorption occurring in thin samples. The transition between two-photon absorption and saturable absorption is found to be dependent on the layer thickness and band gaps in the materials.

Improvement of high-order harmonics from silver plasma plumes induced by femtoseconds laser pulses

Srinivasa Rao Konda et al.

Summary: The study explores high-order harmonics generation using silver plasma plumes ablated by fs laser pulses, showing enhanced intensity and cut-off with shorter pulse duration. Experimentally, the cut-off frequencies for Ag+ and Ag2+ ions closely match theoretical values. Chirped fs driving pulses result in blueshift and redshift of harmonic spectra, increasing intensity of specific harmonic ranges. Comparing bulk and nanoparticles, smaller NPs demonstrate greater HHG efficiency.

Plasmon-enhanced third-order optical nonlinearity of monolayer MoS2

Xiaoli Sun et al.

Summary: Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have unique electric band structures that make them attractive for photonics. However, their atomic-scale thickness limits their optical absorbance, hindering their use in nonlinear optical devices. This study proposes a method to enhance the nonlinear optical properties of TMDs using plasmons from embedded silver nanoparticles (NPs). The results show that MoS2 with non-contact Ag NPs has a significantly higher third-order nonlinear absorption coefficient compared to pure monolayer MoS2 under excitation of 515 nm light. The plasmonic implication also causes a switch from reverse saturable absorption to saturable absorption at 1030 nm.

Application of vector beams for enhanced high-order harmonics generation in laser-induced plasmas

Mottamchetty Venkatesh et al.

Summary: Intense high-order harmonics can be generated by phase- and polarization-structured femtosecond pulses. The strength of low-order harmonics varies with different driving beams (radially polarized beam, azimuthally polarized beam, and their superposition) in laser-induced plasmas. The phenomenon can be explained by phase matching and specific properties of vector beams.

Summary: Since the first demonstration of attosecond pulses, measurement techniques have been introduced for the temporal characterization of these pulses and for investigating ultrafast dynamics in atoms, molecules, and solids. These attosecond spectroscopic tools, combined with sophisticated theoretical methods, have allowed the unraveling and investigation of previously unobserved physical processes. The development of new spectroscopic techniques is enabling the study, understanding, and control of coupled electron-nuclear dynamics in increasingly complex systems.

Highly improved nonlinear optical responses of reduced graphene oxide via the decoration of Ni doped ZnS nanoparticles

Yuning Liang et al.

Summary: In this study, the NLO properties of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) were improved by decorating it with Ni-doped ZnS nanoparticles. The Ni-ZnS/RGO composites exhibited saturation absorption and positive nonlinear refraction properties, which could be adjusted by controlling the doping concentration of Ni and the size of ZnS nanoparticles. The highly improved NLO responses of Ni-ZnS/RGO composites were attributed to the introduction of Ni-doped impurity energy levels within the band gap of ZnS and the charge transfer and synergism between ZnS and RGO.

Distinction in resonance properties of the atomic and molecular contained plasmas used for high-order harmonics generation of ultrafast laser pulses

Rashid A. Ganeev et al.

Summary: This study reexamines the mechanism of resonance enhancement of a single harmonic during high-order harmonic generation in indium, zinc, and chromium-contained atomic and molecular plasmas. It was found that oxides, selenides, and phosphides of these metals notably reduce the enhancement of a single harmonic due to either a shift of the ionic transitions possessing strong oscillator strength out of the wavelength of those harmonics or a reduction of the oscillator strength of these transitions. The application of different wavelengths of driving pulses drastically changes the enhancement of a single harmonic in indium-contained plasmas.

Photoluminescence from Single-Walled MoS2 Nanotubes Coaxially Grown on Boron Nitride Nanotubes

Summary: Coaxial synthesis of single-walled and multiwalled molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanotubes on boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) was achieved by removing single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) from heteronanotubes. Single-walled MoS2 nanotubes exhibit direct bandgap structure around 6-7 nm diameter, with a transition from indirect to direct gap above 5.2 nm. Presence of SWCNTs in BNNTs and single-walled MoS2 nanotubes significantly quenches the PL signal.

Preparation, modification and nonlinear optical properties of semiconducting MoS2 and MoS2/ZnO composite film

Hai-Quan Liu et al.

Summary: ZnO, MoS2, MoS2-time, and MoS2/ZnO composite films with excellent linear-nonlinear absorption properties were obtained by magnetron sputtering method. The MoS2 film morphology changed from granular to worm-like due to increasing sputtering power. Nonlinear absorption behavior of MoS2/ZnO composite film changed from saturated absorption to reverse saturated absorption as input energy of laser increased, with NLA coefficient 2-5 times higher than that of ZnO film. It suggests that MoS2 significantly enhances NLA characteristics of ZnO for potential use in optical limiting devices.

Polarization control of quasimonochromatic XUV light produced via resonant high-order harmonic generation

M. A. Khokhlova et al.

Summary: This study presents a numerical model of resonant high-harmonic generation by tin ions in an elliptically polarized laser field, along with an analytical model revealing the mechanism and main features of this process. The research shows that the resonant harmonics behave anomalously with the ellipticity of the fundamental field, with the intensity dropping much slower compared to nonresonant harmonics. Additionally, it is found that the ellipticity of harmonics near the resonance is significantly higher than for those far off the resonance, providing a potential way to create a quasimonochromatic coherent XUV source with controllable ellipticity, potentially up to circular polarization.
