NOX Dependent ROS Generation and Cell Metabolism

Tiziana Pecchillo Cimmino et al.

Summary: Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are highly reactive molecules that can induce cytotoxicity or regulate cellular physiology. Among the ROS, the superoxide anion radical (O2 center dot-) plays a key role in redox signaling, generated by the NADPH oxidase (NOX) enzyme family and the mitochondrial electron transport chain. In this review, the authors discuss the emerging roles of NOX enzymes in modulating cancer cell metabolism and highlight their potential as therapeutic targets for rewiring tumor metabolism.

Effects of different dietary interventions in multiple sclerosis: a systematic review of evidence from 2018 to 2022

Busra Atabilen et al.

Summary: Nutrition plays a significant role in both the development and prognosis of multiple sclerosis (MS). This systematic review aims to evaluate the impact of different dietary interventions on MS patients and identify the most appropriate dietary model for this population. The Mediterranean diet appears to be the most recommended option, given its positive long-term health outcomes and lack of side effects. However, further studies are needed for a definitive conclusion.

What Are the Key Gut Microbiota Involved in Neurological Diseases? A Systematic Review

Bruno Bonnechere et al.

Summary: There is increasing evidence that the composition and relative abundance of gut microbiota undergo significant changes in various neurological disorders. Some specific genera, such as Akkermansia, Faecalibacterium, and Prevotella, are frequently implicated in different diseases. The strongest overlap between pathologies is observed between multiple sclerosis (MS) and Parkinson's disease (PD), as well as PD and stroke. However, the interpretation of the findings for Alzheimer's disease (AD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and stroke is limited by the small number of studies and low statistical power, which may lead to false positive and false negative results.
