In vitro anti-influenza assessment of anionic compounds ascorbate, acetate and citrate

Hadiseh Shokouhi Targhi et al.

Summary: In this study, three anionic compounds - ascorbate, acetate, and citrate - were found to reduce the viral titer of influenza virus in vitro and alter cytokine expression. These compounds have the potential to alleviate inflammatory responses.

An observational cohort study to assess N-acetylglucosamine for COVID-19 treatment in the inpatient setting

Ameer E. Hassan

Summary: The administration of N-acetylglucosamine was associated with improved clinical outcomes for patients with COVID-19, including reduced hospital length-of-stay, ICU admission rates, and death/hospice rates, compared to standard care alone.

Comparative Study on the Effect of Cidofovir Treatment for Severe Adenovirus Pneumonia

Seong Mi Moon et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the association of cidofovir treatment with clinical improvement in immunocompetent adult patients with severe adenovirus pneumonia. Results showed that treatment with cidofovir did not improve clinical outcomes in terms of time to defervescence, stopping of oxygen supplement, length of stay, and the need for mechanical ventilation and ECMO. Further studies with larger samples are needed.

Early use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in COVID-19 might reverse pathogenesis, prevent complications and improve clinical outcomes

Mina T. Kelleni

Summary: This manuscript presents a novel theory for the pathogenesis of COVID-19 and suggests the early use of NSAIDs, including ibuprofen, as a safe and potentially preventative measure for COVID-19 complications. The author also advocates against routine use of glucocorticoids for COVID-19 patients, recommending their use only for those with late acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Metabolic Modifications by Common Respiratory Viruses and Their Potential as New Antiviral Targets

Jens Kleinehr et al.

Summary: Respiratory viruses rely on host cells for replication and actively induce certain cellular functions for their own benefit, including modifying metabolic pathways such as glycolysis, fatty acid synthesis, and the tricarboxylic acid cycle. Studying the modifications of metabolic pathways mediated by these viruses can help identify potential targets and compounds for therapeutic approaches.
