Cancer statistics, 2022

Rebecca L. Siegel et al.

Summary: Each year, the American Cancer Society compiles data on cancer occurrence and outcomes in the United States. The latest data shows that breast and prostate cancer progress has stagnated, while lung cancer has shown improvements in survival rates. Lung cancer incidence for advanced disease has declined while localized-stage rates have increased, resulting in higher survival rates. Mortality patterns align with incidence trends, with lung cancer deaths declining rapidly, breast cancer deaths slowing, and prostate cancer deaths stabilizing.

Formononetin exhibits anticancer activity in gastric carcinoma cell and regulating miR-542-5p

Wei-Song Wang et al.

Summary: Formononetin has been shown to inhibit the growth and aggressiveness of gastric carcinoma (GC) cells in vitro and in vivo by suppressing the viability, migration, and invasion abilities of GC cells. The upregulation of microRNA-542-5p (miR-542-5p) in GC may contribute to the anticancer activity of formononetin in GC cells.

Potential Therapeutic Targets of Curcumin, Most Abundant Active Com-pound of Turmeric Spice: Role in the Management of Various Types of Cancer

Saleh A. Almatroodi et al.

Summary: Recent studies have proven that curcumin has potential anti-cancer effects by preventing cancer cell growth, inducing apoptosis, activating tumor suppressor genes, and inhibiting tumor progression. Combined treatment of curcumin with anti-cancer drugs can enhance therapeutic efficacy and suppress cancer cell metastasis. Further well-designed clinical trials are needed to establish the bioavailability, mechanism of action, efficacy, and safe dose of curcumin in cancer management.
