Seizure semiology, localization, and the 2017 ILAE seizure classification

Grant Turek et al.

Summary: In the field of epilepsy research, the term semiology is crucial for describing the clinical characteristics of seizures for pre-surgical evaluation. Studies focus on the correlation between seizure semiology and activation of specific cortical regions, as well as distinguishing between seizure onset and symptomogenic zones. The 2017 ILAE classification heavily relies on seizure semiology for operational classification of seizure types, with advancements in understanding coming from both scalp EEG studies and recent stereo-electroencephalography discoveries.

Dose Proportionality and Steady-State Pharmacokinetics of Serdexmethylphenidate/Dexmethylphenidate, a Novel Prodrug Combination to Treat Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

Rene Braeckman et al.

Summary: This study aims to determine the pharmacokinetic profile of a new treatment containing d-MPH and SDX, and investigate the dose proportionality and steady-state pharmacokinetic profile. The results show that the plasma concentration of d-MPH increases rapidly and declines slowly after administration of SDX/d-MPH. The C-max and AUC(0-inf) of d-MPH were proportional to the dose of SDX/d-MPH, and SDX reached steady state after the first dose.

Seizure-related deaths in children: The expanding spectrum

Jenna Harowitz et al.

Summary: Seizures in children are often overlooked as a potential cause of death, both in those with and without an epilepsy diagnosis. Miscarriages are more common among individuals with a personal or family history of epilepsy, suggesting a possible link between fetal losses and epileptic factors. Accurately estimating and understanding the mechanisms of seizure-related deaths in children is crucial for developing effective education and interventions to prevent these tragedies.

Viloxazine in the Treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Amber N. Edinoff et al.

Summary: ADHD is the most common neurodevelopmental disorder in children, and viloxazine ER has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of ADHD in children aged 6-17 years, showing significant reduction in symptoms. Early response to viloxazine treatment best predicts treatment outcomes, indicating its relevance in improving patients' quality of life and cognitive function.
