Effect of Plasma On-Time with a Fixed Duty Ratio on Reactive Species in Plasma-Treated Medium and Its Significance in Biological Applications

Sohail Mumtaz et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of plasma on-times on the efficacy of nonthermal atmospheric pressure plasma (NTAPP) for biomedical applications. Different duty ratios were used while keeping the treatment time fixed. The results show that increasing the plasma on-time significantly increases the levels of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS/RNS), which in turn affects cell viability and ATP levels in U87-MG brain cancer cells. This study highlights the importance of optimizing plasma on-time to enhance the effectiveness of soft plasma jet for biomedical applications.

Microwave Radiation and the Brain: Mechanisms, Current Status, and Future Prospects

Sohail Mumtaz et al.

Summary: Modern humans are exposed to various radiations daily, and the brain is the most sensitive organ to electromagnetic radiation (EMR) exposure. However, there are still many unknown factors in related studies, including the effects of different parameters and irradiation time. This review analyzes and interprets recent studies on the effects of microwave radiation on learning and memory capabilities in the brain, as well as the mechanisms of brain dysfunction caused by exposure, providing prospective views for future research in developing preventive and therapeutic strategies for brain degeneration caused by microwave radiation.

Impact of seed color and storage time on the radish seed germination and sprout growth in plasma agriculture

Pankaj Attri et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that plasma treatment can promote germination and growth in radish seeds, with effects depending on seed color and harvest year. Additionally, the plasma treatment has a stronger growth-promoting effect on seeds harvested in 2017, with grey seeds showing better responses than brown seeds. The reactive oxygen and nitrogen species in Air scalar-DBD plasma are efficient in accelerating germination and growth in older seeds.

Low-Temperature Plasma-Assisted Nitrogen Fixation for Corn Plant Growth and Development

Pradeep Lamichhane et al.

Summary: In this study, nitrogen fixation in water was achieved using an AC-driven non-thermal atmospheric pressure nitrogen plasma jet, with the addition of Mg, Al, or Zn to increase the rate of nitrogen reduction to ammonia. The plasma-activated water, with and without metal ions, was found to enhance germination and growth in corn plants significantly, leading to increased chlorophyll and protein contents in leaves. This suggests that non-thermal plasma reactors could be an effective tool to improve seed germination and seedling growth.
