TNF-α inhibitor tanfanercept (HBM9036) improves signs and symptoms of dry eye in a phase 2 trial in the controlled adverse environment in China

Yanling Dong et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical safety and efficacy of tanfanercept ophthalmic solution for dry eye disease in a controlled adverse environment study conducted in China. The results demonstrated that tanfanercept showed improvement in signs of DED compared to placebo, especially in patients aged 35 and older. Tanfanercept was well tolerated with no serious adverse events, supporting further evaluation for DED treatment in China.

Ocular Surface Inflammatory Disorders (OSID): A Collective of Systemic Etiologies Which Cause or Amplify Dry Eye Syndrome

Matias Soifer et al.

Summary: Ocular surface inflammatory disorders (OSID) are inflammatory reactions in the ocular adnexal connective tissues caused by systemic disorders, resulting in inflammatory dry eye. The lack of available biomarkers for detecting and quantifying inflammation in the conjunctiva and lacrimal gland is a major limitation in managing these conditions. OSID and dry eye syndrome involve different immune cells and understanding the potential role of inflammation and immune phenotype in ocular tissues is crucial.

Topical Anti-TNFα Agent Licaminlimab (OCS-02) Relieves Persistent Ocular Discomfort in Severe Dry Eye Disease: A Randomized Phase II Study

Lee Shettle et al.

Summary: This study assessed the efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of the new topical ocular anti-TNF alpha antibody fragment licaminlimab in relieving persistent ocular discomfort in severe dry eye disease (DED). The results showed that licaminlimab had a statistically significant improvement in the global ocular discomfort score compared to the vehicle group, with good tolerability and no increase in intraocular pressure.

The Role of Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF-α) in Autoimmune Disease and Current TNF-α Inhibitors in Therapeutics

Dan-in Jang et al.

Summary: TNF-α was originally identified as a factor causing tumor necrosis but has also been recognized as a pathological component of autoimmune diseases. Its signaling pathways play important roles in cellular responses, and inappropriate activation can lead to chronic inflammation and autoimmune diseases. TNF-α inhibitors have been developed as effective therapeutic tools for various autoimmune diseases.

Corneal lymphangiogenesis as a potential target in dry eye disease-a systematic review

Mohansrinivas Chennakesavalu et al.

Summary: Dry eye disease (DED) is a common ocular surface condition characterized by discomfort, visual disturbance, and pain. Recent research suggests that DED is a chronic inflammatory condition triggered by various factors, with lymphangiogenesis playing a central role in its pathogenesis. Anti-lymphangiogenic therapeutic strategies may offer a promising option for treating DED, supported by limited clinical trials on this approach.

Roles of Eicosanoids in Regulating Inflammation and Neutrophil Migration as an Innate Host Response to Bacterial Infections

Austin E. F. Sheppe et al.

Summary: Eicosanoids are lipid-based signaling molecules that play a crucial role in innate immune responses, with prostaglandins and leukotrienes helping immune cells combat bacterial invasions rapidly. Bacterial pathogens alter the expression of eicosanoid-specific biosynthetic enzymes to interfere with host responses to bacteria.

Dietary Supplements-For Whom? The Current State of Knowledge about the Health Effects of Selected Supplement Use

Regina Ewa Wierzejska

Summary: Dietary supplements do not prevent cardiovascular diseases or the development of malignancies, nor are they effective in combating obesity. Scientific research suggests that omega-3 fatty acids can lower blood triglycerides, but there is still debate over whether they can prevent heart disease. Illegal sales of some supplements increase the risk of ingesting banned substances.
