Long-Term Consequences of Puumala Hantavirus Infection

Jukka Mustonen et al.

Summary: Several viral infections can lead to both acute and long-term complications. There have been numerous reports in the past two years about post-infectious symptoms experienced by COVID-19 patients. Serious complications may occasionally arise during the acute phase of Puumala orthohantavirus-induced nephropathia epidemica, but severe long-term consequences are rare. Fatigue lasting for several weeks is quite common, and hormonal insufficiencies should be ruled out if the patient does not recover normally.

Inflammasome Contribution to the Activation of Th1, Th2, and Th17 Immune Responses

Ekaterina Martynova et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the mechanisms of inflammasome activation and their role in the development of Th1, Th2, and Th17 lymphocytes. The contribution of cytokines released from activated inflammasomes to the immune response is summarized, along with the discussion of the role of cytokines released from tissue cells in promoting lymphocyte differentiation.

Select hyperactivating NLRP3 ligands enhance the TH1-and TH17-inducing potential of human type 2 conventional dendritic cells

Lukas Hatscher et al.

Summary: The conventional type 2 DC (cDC2) subset has been found to be transcriptionally and functionally poised for inflammasome formation and response without pyroptosis when stimulated with relatively weak inflammasome activators, leading to the induction of prominent T helper type 1 (T(H)1) and T(H)17 responses. These findings suggest that the human cDC2 subpopulation could be a prime target for the treatment of inflammasome-dependent inflammatory diseases and provide insights for new approaches in adjuvant and vaccine development.

Summary: Hantavirus infection, rare in the Balkan Peninsula, can cause dangerous syndromes without specific treatment or vaccine, making early diagnosis and intervention crucial for reducing risks. However, diagnosing this disease in non-endemic areas poses challenges.

The Distribution of Puumala orthohantavirus Genome Variants Correlates with the Regional Landscapes in the Trans-Kama Area of the Republic of Tatarstan

Yuriy N. Davidyuk et al.

Summary: The study found that in the Trans-Kama area of the Republic of Tatarstan, PUUV strains mainly belonged to the RUS genetic lineage and clustered in two subclades in the Western and Eastern parts of the region within the Volga Federal District. It is suggested that the PUUV strains may have spread from the Western area to the Eastern area through the migration of bank voles.
