Long Non-Coding LEF1-AS1 Sponge miR-5100 Regulates Apoptosis and Autophagy in Gastric Cancer Cells via the miR-5100/DEK/AMPK-mTOR Axis

Huimin Zhang et al.

Summary: DEK and miR-5100 play critical roles in gastric cancer, with DEK regulating autophagy and apoptosis through the AMPK/mTOR pathway, and miR-5100 promoting apoptosis and inhibiting autophagy by targeting DEK. LEF1-AS1 has opposite effects on autophagy and apoptosis compared to miR-5100.

Abnormally Expressed lncRNAs as Potential Biomarkers for Gastric Cancer Risk: A Diagnostic Meta-Bioinformatics Analysis

Ying-ying Dong et al.

Summary: This study conducted a diagnostic meta-bioinformatics analysis to explore the association between long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) expression and gastric cancer (GC) risk. The results indicated that abnormally expressed lncRNAs, especially circulating lncRNAs, might serve as potential diagnostic biomarkers for GC risk. Additionally, a novel combined model of lncRNAs showed promising performance in GC diagnosis.

lncRNA HIT000218960 enhances resistance to 5-fluorouracil by promoting HMGA2 and activating the AKT/mTOR/P70S6K pathway in gastric cancer cells

Li Bai et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the long noncoding RNA HIT000218960 on gastric cancer cell resistance to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and explore the underlying molecular mechanism. HIT000218960 was found to be upregulated in gastric cancer tissues and cells, and positively correlated with HMGA2 expression. Patients with high HIT000218960 expression had lower chemotherapy efficacy and overall survival rate. Overexpression of HIT000218960 suppressed apoptosis in gastric cancer cells, while knockdown increased apoptosis. HIT000218960 was also found to promote HMGA2 expression and AKT/mTOR/P70S6K signaling.

FOXD1-AS1 regulates FOXD1 translation and promotes gastric cancer progression and chemoresistance by activating the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway

Qiong Wu et al.

Summary: FOXD1-AS1 aggravates gastric cancer progression and chemoresistance by promoting FOXD1 translation through the PIK3CA/PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. These findings offer a potential novel target for treating gastric cancer patients, especially those with cisplatin resistance.

Long noncoding RNA TMPO-AS1/miR-126-5p/BRCC3 axis accelerates gastric cancer progression and angiogenesis via activating PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway

Yu Hu et al.

Summary: The study found that TMPO-AS1 is highly expressed in gastric cancer tissues and cells, promoting proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis of gastric cancer cells, and upregulating BRCC3 expression by acting as a competing endogenous RNA for miR-126-5p. The TMPO-AS1/miR-126-5p/BRCC3 axis contributes to gastric cancer progression by regulating the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
