Exogenously applied spermidine alleviates hypoxia stress in Phyllostachys praecox seedlings via changes in endogenous hormones and gene expression

Jianshuang Gao et al.

Summary: This study found that exogenous Spd can alleviate growth inhibition and reduce oxidative damage in bamboo seedlings under hypoxia stress. It can also alter hormone concentrations and related gene expression, thereby improving the adaptability of plants to flooding stress.

Transcriptome and Metabolome Analyses Reveal Molecular Responses of Two Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) Cultivars to Cold Stress

Jianwei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the molecular mechanisms behind peppers' response to cold stress using transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses. The results revealed that the content of free polyamines, plant hormones, and osmolytes increased in response to cold stress, and the ICE-CBF-COR pathway played a crucial role in regulating peppers' responses to cold stress.

Genome-Wide Identification of Polyamine Oxidase (PAO) Family Genes: Roles of CaPAO2 and CaPAO4 in the Cold Tolerance of Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.)

Jianwei Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, six PAO genes were identified in the pepper genome, and it was found that CaPAO2 and CaPAO4 were significantly upregulated under cold stress. Further experiments demonstrated that overexpression of CaPAO2 and CaPAO4 enhanced freezing-stress tolerance in plants. These findings provide candidate genes for breeding cold-stress-tolerant transgenic pepper cultivars.

Effects of exogenous spermidine on poplar resistance to leaf and root herbivory as affected by soil cadmium stress

Siyu Qin et al.

Summary: The study found that the exogenous application of Spd can enhance the defense capability of woody plants against Cd stress, improving resistance to herbivores. Leaf-feeding and root-feeding herbivores showed significant inhibition effects on Cd-treated plants with Spd, and the growth weight of herbivores was negatively correlated with Cd concentrations in plant tissues.

Genome-wide analysis of the bZIP gene family and the role of AchnABF1 from postharvest kiwifruit (Actinidia chinensis cv. Hongyang) in osmotic and freezing stress adaptations

Mijing Jin et al.

Summary: Chilling injury is a barrier to kiwifruit refrigeration, but understanding the molecular basis of the cold response in refrigerated kiwifruit is crucial. The study identified 81 bZIP family proteins in kiwifruit and revealed that the expression of AREB/ABF family members is induced by low temperature and ABA. Ectopic expression of AchnABF1 enhances cold tolerance in plants and is involved in osmotic stress response.
