Mechanisms of HIV-1 evasion to the antiviral activity of chemokine CXCL12 indicate potential links with pathogenesis

Marie Armani-Tourret et al.

Summary: This study found that CXCR4-using viruses in HIV-1 infection can be differentiated based on their resistance to the CXCR4 chemokine CXCL12. Resistant viruses are often found in patients with low CD4 T lymphocyte levels and exhibit unique properties compared to sensitive viruses. Resistant viruses may contribute to CD4 T lymphocyte depletion by more effectively targeting naive cells in lymphoid organs.

Unique Gut Microbiome in HIV Patients on Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) Suggests Association with Chronic Inflammation

Aya Ishizaka et al.

Summary: The study found that HIV-infected patients have changes in gut microbiome composition, including dysbiosis related to chronic inflammation, with alterations in abundance of certain taxa and associations with inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Additionally, HIV-associated dysbiosis shifts the immunological balance towards inflammatory responses.

Summary: In this French cohort of HIV controllers, only 30% of participants required ART during a median follow-up of 14.8 years. The results demonstrate the stability of HIC status and support a patient-centered treatment approach based on individual benefit/risk balance.

Long noncoding RNA MIR4435-2HG enhances metabolic function of myeloid dendritic cells from HIV-1 elite controllers

Ciputra Adijaya Hartana et al.

Summary: The upregulation of host lncRNA MIR4435-2HG in mDCs of elite controllers is associated with a distinct immunometabolic profile, influencing the metabolic state of mDCs through epigenetic mechanisms involving H3K27ac enrichment at an intronic enhancer in the RPTOR gene locus. This suggests a role of MIR4435-2HG in enhancing immunometabolic activities of mDCs in elite controllers through targeted epigenetic modifications of a member of the mTOR signaling pathway.
