Expression Silencing of Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase 8 Interacting Protein-1 Conferred Its Role in Pancreatic β-Cell Physiology and Insulin Secretion

Rania Saeed et al.

Summary: This study investigated the expression and genetic variants of the MAPK8IP1 gene in pancreatic beta-cells. The results showed higher expression of MAPK8IP1 in human islets, especially in beta-cells. A genetic variant, rs7115753, near MAPK8IP1 was found to be significantly associated with type 2 diabetes. Functional experiments demonstrated that silencing of Mapk8ip1 affected beta-cell function, including insulin secretion and glucose uptake rate.

The role of interleukin-1β in type 2 diabetes mellitus: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Hend Alfadul et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis examines the emerging role of interleukin 1 beta (IL1 beta) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The results indicate that there is no significant difference in IL1 beta concentrations between T2DM patients and controls. The study highlights the limited evidence available and emphasizes the need for larger sample sizes and standardized assays in future research.

The Role of Oxidative Stress in Pancreatic β Cell Dysfunction in Diabetes

Natsuki Eguchi et al.

Summary: Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by inappropriately elevated glucose levels due to impaired pancreatic beta cell function and insulin resistance. Studies have shown that endoplasmic reticulum stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and oxidative stress play central roles in promoting beta cell dysfunction, with oxidative stress particularly important as beta cells exhibit lower antioxidative capacity. Efforts are being made to understand and counteract the effects of oxidative stress on beta cell health and survival.

Copine 3 CPNE3 is a novel regulator for insulin secretion and glucose uptake in pancreatic β-cells

Waseem El-Huneidi et al.

Summary: The study revealed that CPNE3 plays a crucial role in maintaining normal beta-cell function, with its silencing impairing insulin secretion and beta-cell function. This finding suggests CPNE3 as a potential new target for future management of type 2 diabetes therapy.

Targeting NLRP3 Inflammasome in the Treatment Of Diabetes and Diabetic Complications: Role of Natural Compounds from Herbal Medicine

Ying Bai et al.

Summary: The NLRP3 inflammasome plays a vital role in the progression of diabetes and its complications, while natural herbal medicine can ameliorate symptoms and delay progression due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties. Understanding the relationship between inflammation and metabolic disorders through natural compounds targeting NLRP3 inflammasome sheds light on potential therapies for treating diabetes and its complications.

Role of Pyroptosis in Diabetes and Its Therapeutic Implications

Abdullah Al Mamun et al.

Summary: Pyroptosis, a type of pro-inflammatory programmed cell death, is described by gasdermin-induced pore formation and the release of pro-inflammatory mediators. Research has shown that pyroptosis may exacerbate diabetic complications and targeting molecules in the pyroptosis and inflammasome signaling pathways could be a novel therapeutic approach for managing diabetes and its complications.
