A method for improving wave suppression ability of acoustic black hole plate in low-frequency range

Zhiwei Wan et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new method to improve the vibration suppression performance of acoustic black hole (ABH) structures in the low-frequency range by adding shunt damping. The results show that the ABH plate has excellent vibration damping performance at high frequencies but is less effective at low frequencies. By using shunt damping, the researchers successfully suppressed four resonate formants in the low-frequency band and improved the high-frequency vibration characteristics by increasing the thickness of the damping layer.

Jie Deng et al.

Summary: Attaching periodic local resonators to form a metamaterial acoustic black hole (MMABH) plate can effectively suppress low-to high -frequency sound radiation. The MMABH can substantially reduce sound radiation at all frequencies thanks to the combination of bandgaps and the slowing down of supersonic bending waves.

Modelling and analysis of nonlinear vibrations for a coupling hard-coated ring disc-cylindric shell structure under piecewise-continuous coupling conditions

Dongxu Du et al.

Summary: A unified nonlinear modelling approach is presented to investigate the nonlinear vibration characteristics of a coupling hard-coated ring disc-cylindric shell structure, considering the strain-dependant characteristic of coatings. By creating equations of motion using Sanders' shell theory and the Kirchhoff plate theory, and developing an innovative efficient algorithm for solving the nonlinear equations, the study discusses the influence of strain-dependant coatings and piecewise-continuous coupling conditions on nonlinear vibrations.

Nullspace technique for imposing constraints in the Rayleigh-Ritz method

Jie Deng et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new approach, called the nullspace method (NSM), for dealing with constraints in the Rayleigh-Ritz method (RRM). The NSM computes a set of nullspace fundamental solutions to satisfy the system constraints, and the mechanical system's response is assumed to be a linear superposition of these solutions. The accuracy of the NSM is validated and compared to other methods through simulations on a system composed of an acoustic black hole plate and a uniform plate. The results show that the NSM can overcome the limitations of other methods at a smaller computational cost, making it a promising tool for complex built-up mechanical systems.

Reconstructed Gaussian basis to characterize flexural wave collimation in plates with periodic arrays of annular acoustic black holes

Jie Deng et al.

Summary: While embedding acoustic black holes in plates is proven to be effective for noise and vibration reduction, their potential for wave manipulation is still in the early stages. Recent studies suggest that plates with ABH indentations act as single-phase metamaterials that can alter wave propagation direction. The focus of this work is on collimating flexural waves in plates through ABH arrangements, with the primary goal being to propose a predictive semi-analytical method and analyze the influence of geometric parameters on ABH arrays' performance.
