Influence of Electric Current on the Temperature Rise and Wear Mechanism of Copper-Graphite Current-Carrying Friction Pair

Yuankai Zhou et al.

Summary: The influence of current on the temperature rise and wear mechanism of the copper-graphite friction pair was studied using pin-disc current-carrying friction experiments under different current conditions. The results showed that the temperature of the friction pair increases with current, and the main wear mechanism changes from material spalling to melt ejection and arc erosion. Changes in the lubricating film led to complex wear behavior.

On the Electric Contact Resistance

B. N. J. Persson

Summary: When an electric current flows across an interface between two contacting solids, there is a change in the electric potential across the interface. Part of the electrical contact resistance is due to the constrictions at the contact regions, and Barber has shown that this resistance can be related to the interfacial contact stiffness.

Mechanical properties and wear resistance of direct energy deposited Fe-12Mn-5Cr-1Ni-0.4C steel deposited on spheroidal graphite cast iron

Young Keun Park et al.

Summary: This study investigates the wear resistance of high-manganese steel produced by direct energy deposition (DED) and spheroidal graphite cast iron. The results show that the wear rates of the deposited high-manganese steel and the spheroidal graphite cast iron depended more on the wear load than on the sliding speed.

Experimental study on wear properties of wheel and rail materials with different hardness values

Y. Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of different hardness values of wheel-rail materials on wear rates. Results showed that wheel hardness significantly affected wear rates, while rail hardness had a smaller impact. Wear rates of both wheel and rail increased with the increase in hardness ratio and rail-wheel hardness ratio.

Graphite lubrication mechanisms under high mechanical load

C. E. Morstein et al.

Summary: The study investigated the fundamental wear mechanisms of graphite under high mechanical load in sliding friction. Increasing the film thickness of graphite coatings led to a higher coefficient of friction due to ploughing effects, but also resulted in extended coating lifetime and reduced counterbody wear. By increasing substrate roughness, the performance in terms of friction, wear, and lifetime could be further improved.
