Synergistic effect of Co catalysts with atomically dispersed CoNx active sites on ammonia borane hydrolysis for hydrogen generation

Pui-Ching Poon et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis of carbon nanotubes containing both Co nanoparticles and atomically dispersed cobalt single-atoms, and investigates their catalytic performance in the hydrolysis of ammonia borane. The results show that Co nanoparticles are successfully embedded in the carbon layers to prevent aggregation and loss of catalytic activity, while Co single-atoms lower the adsorption barriers of water molecules. The optimal ratio of Co to melem-C3N4 is determined, and the catalyst exhibits high reactivity and stability, outperforming most non-noble metal catalysts.
