Structural design and analysis of a solar thermochemical reactor partially filled with phase change material based on shape optimization

Xin-Yuan Tang et al.

Summary: This study presents a shape optimization model based on a Bezier parametric curve for designing a solar parabolic trough thermochemical reactor (SPTR) filled with metal foam enhanced phase change material. The optimized design shows improved performance and efficiency compared to the original tube design, with significant reductions in catalyst usage. Both steady and transient performance under constant and fluctuating solar flux conditions are analyzed and discussed. The optimized tube exhibits better overall performance, with increased methanol conversion efficiency and hydrogen yield.

A review of phase change heat transfer in shape-stabilized phase change materials (ss-PCMs) based on porous supports for thermal energy storage

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: Latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) using phase change materials (PCMs) is effective in addressing energy supply-demand mismatch, but faces challenges of low thermal conductivity and leakage. Integrating porous supports and PCMs to fabricate shape-stabilized phase change materials (ss-PCMs) is one solution, with research on phase change heat transfer in porous ss-PCMs being crucial for system performance evaluation. Research gaps exist between phase change heat transfer and material preparation, and future studies should focus on numerical advancements and experimental investigations in this area.

On multicomponent gas diffusion and coupling concepts for porous media and free flow: a benchmark study

Navid Ahmadi et al.

Summary: The study compared different diffusion models and coupling concepts for predicting the transport behavior of multicomponent mixtures in porous media and free flow. It highlighted the importance of interaction between different diffusing components and the impact of free flow velocity on gas migration at the interface under diffusion- and advection-dominated conditions. Despite using different modeling concepts and numerical schemes, the two simulators showed excellent agreement and capability to reproduce previous modeling and experimental results.

Response surface methodology for optimization of micellar-enhanced spectrofluorimetric method for assay of foretinib in bulk powder and human urine

Hany W. Darwish et al.

Summary: This study presents a sensitive and precise enhanced spectrofluorimetric assay for foretinib (FTB) in tablets and urine using micelle mediated response surface optimization. The method showed a linear relationship between relative fluorescence intensity (RFI) and FTB concentrations, with high accuracy and calculated limit of detection (LOD). In addition to assaying pure bulk powder, the method was successfully applied to urine samples with high accuracy.

Advances in Hydrogen Production from Natural Gas Reforming

Alberto Boretti et al.

Summary: Steam natural gas reforming is the preferred technique for hydrogen production, but there is still room for improvement. Using concentrated solar energy instead of burning fuels as the energy supply can significantly reduce the economic and environmental costs involved in hydrogen production.
