Pt loading to promote hydrogen evolution from ammonia-borane hydrolysis of Ni2P under visible light

Muhammad Asim et al.

Summary: A Pt@Ni2P catalyst is reported to enhance the hydrogen evolution rate from ammonia borane under both dark and visible light conditions. X-ray photoelectron spectrum analysis shows that the incorporation of Pt with Ni2P forms partially positive Pt delta+ and partially negative Ni2P delta- as active sites for ammonia borane and water, respectively. Visible light irradiation further accelerates the electron transfer from Pt delta+ to Ni2P delta-. Pt loading over Ni2P plays a vital role in improving the H2 evolution rate via ammonia borane hydrolysis.

Synergetic effect of Au nanoparticles and transition metal phosphides for enhanced hydrogen evolution from ammonia-borane

Muhammad Asim et al.

Summary: In this study, Au/Ni2P and Au/CoP catalysts were synthesized for ammonia borane hydrolysis, showing increased activity compared to Ni2P and CoP, respectively, due to the synergistic effect of Au nanoparticles and metal phosphides. XPS analysis revealed that the synergistic effect of Au5+ and (Ni2P)5- was stronger than that of Au5+ and (CoP)5-. Kinetic studies showed higher activation energy and lower TOF for Au/Ni2P compared to Au/CoP, providing an effective approach for enhancing the H2 evolution rate in ammonia borane hydrolysis.

Ionic liquid microemulsion mediated synthesis of Pt/TiO2 nanocomposites for ammonia borane hydrolysis

Yuanchao Pei et al.

Summary: The tunable microstructure of microemulsion self-assembly systems is of great importance in reaction processes, especially as nanoreactors. Ionic liquids-based microemulsions have been shown to be versatile platforms for catalytic reactions, drug delivery, and functional materials fabrication. By utilizing the confinement effect of microemulsion structures, the size, morphology, and catalytic performance of nanosized platinum/titanium dioxide composites can be tuned. These composites exhibit better catalytic activity in the hydrolysis of ammonia borane, with higher turnover frequency and lower activation energy of the reaction. The nanoreactors constructed from versatile ionic liquids are believed to provide new guidance for designing advanced scientific applications.

Enjun Jiang et al.

Summary: In this work, MoP-Mo2C quantum dot heterostructures were uniformly hosted on a three-dimensional hierarchically porous thin N,P-doped carbon sheet network (MoP-Mo2C/NPC) through a novel one-pot synthesis method. The prepared MoP-Mo2C/NPC exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity and high stability for hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions, outperforming state-of-the-art Pt/C || RuO2/C systems in water splitting processes.

Self-supporting NiCoP for hydrogen generation via hydrolysis of ammonia borane

Muhammad Asim et al.

Summary: Ammonia borane (NH3BH3) is widely used as a hydrogen storage material. A cobalt doped nickel phosphide catalyst has been developed to improve the hydrolysis of NH3BH3. The catalyst optimization shows that 4-NiCoP/NF produces the highest H2 production. NiCoP/NF has lower activation energy, making it suitable for H2 generation.

Fabrication of robust CoP/Ni2P/CC composite for efficient hydrogen evolution reaction and the reduction of graphene oxide

Fan Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, a heterostructured cobalt phosphide/nickel phosphide/carbon cloth composite was successfully fabricated using an interfacial engineering strategy. The composite exhibited excellent catalytic properties for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) under various acid-base conditions, owing to its abundant active sites and the synergistic coupling effect of CoP and Ni2P nanoparticles. The composite showed high catalytic activity and stability, with negligible degradation after continuous testing for 24 hours.

Understanding the Reduction of Transition-Metal Phosphates to Transition-Metal Phosphides by Combining Temperature-Programmed Reduction and Infrared Spectroscopy

Qiang Sheng et al.

Summary: Temperature-programmed reduction of transition-metal phosphate precursors is a commonly used method for preparing transition-metal phosphides. The construction of a TPR-IR apparatus allowed analysis of gas flows during reduction, revealing the presence of PH3 and Pn+ species at low temperatures. The study sheds light on the complex processes of catalyst preparation.
