Numerical modeling of droplets injection in the secondary flow of the wet steam ejector in the refrigeration cycle

Daryoush Dadpour et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of droplets injection at secondary flow on the performance of the refrigeration cycle. The Eulerian-Eulerian method is used to simulate the flow, and the results are validated with experimental data. It is found that the wetness and number of droplets have an impact on the COP, T-outlet, and ER of the refrigeration cycle.

Numerical investigation of roughness effect on wet steam ejector performance in the refrigeration cycle

Mehdi Pouyan Rad et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of primary nozzle surface roughness on wet steam ejectors in the refrigeration cycle. The Eulerian-Eulerian model is validated and the effect of different surface roughness on the flow is shown. The results indicate that increasing roughness shifts the shock chain, weakens shock strength, and increases temperature. Moreover, an increase in primary nozzle surface roughness decreases the efficiency ratio and cooling capacity of the refrigeration cycle.

Analysis of Heterogeneous Nucleation and Erosion Behavior Considering the Injection of Impurities into Wet Steam Flow Using Poly-dispersed Method

Amir Momeni Dolatabadi et al.

Summary: Solid salt injection in steam turbines can cause heterogeneous nucleation, leading to changes in turbine operation and power. This study calculates and considers the effects of heterogeneous nucleation by injecting NaCl into wet-steam flow parameters, erosion rate, and turbine power. Numerical results show a reduction in condensation shock, a decrease in erosion rate, and an increase in steam turbine power due to the presence of solid particles.

Investigation of the effect of water droplet injection on condensation flow of different nozzles geometry

Esmail Lakzian et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of droplet injection on Moore A (MA) and De Laval nozzles, finding that droplet injection can weaken the condensation shock in the MA nozzle and eliminate the shock in the De nozzle. Additionally, spraying droplets can increase the Mach number at the nozzle output and have varying effects on the wetness fraction.

Investigating the wet-to-dry expansion of organic fluids for power generation

Martin T. White

Summary: The successful conversion of waste heat into electricity requires the development of new, innovative power cycles. The wet-to-dry cycle, which allows the working fluid to transition across the saturation dome during expansion, has shown significant thermodynamic advantages. However, the feasibility of achieving wet-to-dry expansion with non-equilibrium effects has not been established. This study introduces a method to assess the thermodynamic potential of a fluid for the wet-to-dry cycle, and presents a nozzle design tool that accounts for non-equilibrium effects. The results confirm the potential of the wet-to-dry cycle to enhance waste-heat recovery systems. Further investigation, including experimental research, is needed to explore this concept.

Hongbing Ding et al.

Summary: This research develops a non-equilibrium condensation model with sliding mesh technology to solve the unsteady condensing flow inside a 3D wet steam stage of a steam turbine. The results quantitatively evaluate the condensation loss and entropy generation considering off-design operation and rough blades, and identify the occurrence of secondary expansion and condensation near the rotor trailing edge.
