Influence of COVID-19 pandemic on self-reported urinary incontinence during pregnancy and postpartum: A prospective study

Amerigo Ferrari et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on pregnancy-related urinary incontinence (UI) in the maternity pathways of Tuscany, Italy. The results showed that UI occurred less frequently and less severely in the post-pandemic group, possibly due to a lack of opportunities to identify UI symptoms during the pandemic. The risk of UI was not increased in women who performed pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) during pregnancy, but there was limited organization of remote PFMT sessions.

Influence of the COVID-19 pandemic and social media on the behaviour of pregnant and lactating women towards vaccination: a scoping review

Larissa De Brabandere et al.

Summary: This scoping review examines the impact of COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination on vaccine confidence in pregnant and lactating women and the role of social media in shaping opinions towards vaccination in these target groups. The study finds that pregnant and lactating women are generally less likely to accept a COVID-19 vaccine compared to non-pregnant and non-nursing women. Safety concerns are the main reason for refusing maternal vaccination. The study also identifies the internet and social media as important sources of information for maternal vaccination.

Patient-reported outcome measures for pregnancy-related urinary and fecal incontinence: A prospective cohort study in a large Italian population

Amerigo Ferrari et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and risk factors of pregnancy-related urinary/fecal incontinence (UI/FI) in a large Italian population. The results showed that highly educated, aged >30, and overweight/obese women had higher incidence and severity of UI. Spontaneous tears or episiotomy were risk factors for postpartum UI, while cesarean section and pelvic floor muscle training during pregnancy were protective, especially in specific groups. Higher prevalence and severity of FI were found in overweight, aged >40, highly educated, non-Italian women, and those undergoing tears.

Experience and attitudes on vaccinations recommended during pregnancy: survey on an Italian sample of women and consultant gynecologists

Maria Scatigna et al.

Summary: The study found low vaccine uptake rates for influenza and Tdap vaccines during pregnancy, partly due to safety concerns and lack of information. Women showed a preference for the Tdap vaccine, as they believed it was more important for maternal and neonatal health. Healthcare workers reported barriers such as vaccine safety concerns and misconceptions as challenges to immunization in pregnant women, highlighting the need for effective training programs.

Flu and pertussis vaccination during pregnancy in Geneva during the COVID-19 pandemic: A multicentric, prospective, survey-based study

M. Lumbreras Areta et al.

Summary: This study investigated the pertussis and influenza vaccination coverage during pregnancy in Geneva maternity hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that most gynecologists offer pertussis vaccination during antenatal care and the uptake is high, but more efforts are needed to increase influenza vaccination coverage. The education level of women has an impact on maternal flu vaccination uptake, while other social disparities do not.

What factors promote vaccine hesitancy or acceptance during pandemics? A systematic review and thematic analysis

Judy Truong et al.

Summary: The study examined factors promoting vaccine hesitancy or acceptance during pandemics, including demographic factors, accessibility and cost, personal responsibility, risk perception, trust in health authorities and vaccines, safety and efficacy of a new vaccine, and lack of information or vaccine misinformation. Understanding participant perspectives from previous pandemics informs strategies for addressing the current COVID-19 pandemic. The impact of vaccine hesitancy on the introduction and effectiveness of a potential COVID-19 vaccine is discussed, recommending further research on the relationship between accessibility and cost of vaccines and vaccine hesitancy.

Differences between influenza and pertussis vaccination uptake in pregnancy: a multi-center survey study in Italy

Luz Maria Vilca et al.

Summary: This study assessed the maternal vaccination coverage in Italy during the 2018-19 influenza season. The low coverage was associated with factors such as knowledge about vaccine safety, previous vaccine uptake, and healthcare provider advice. Improving vaccine coverage among pregnant women may be achieved by healthcare provider recommendations and availability of vaccines during prenatal care visits.
