In vivo gastroprotective effect and biological potentialities of six Tunisian medicinal plants using multivariate data treatment

Rim Ben Mansour et al.

Summary: Six Tunisian medicinal plants were screened and compared for their phenolic compounds, antioxidant activities, anti-inflammatory effects, and gastro-protective effects. Among the species studied, Myrtus communis exhibited the highest phenolic contents and antioxidant capacities, as well as notable anti-inflammatory and gastro-protective effects. The results suggest that these plants, especially Myrtus communis, are valuable sources of natural agents with potential benefits for human health, particularly in the treatment of inflammation and gastric diseases.

Black locust flowers: antioxidant extraction kinetics, reducing capacity, mineral composition, and antioxidant activity

Ivana A. Boskov et al.

Summary: The impact of solvent polarity on the kinetics, reducing capacity, antioxidant activity, and mineral composition of black locust flower extracts obtained by ultrasound-assisted extraction was investigated. The results showed that the properties of the extracts varied significantly depending on the solvent polarity, with different solvents resulting in extracts with different antioxidant activity and mineral content.

Phenolic and flavonoid compounds extraction from Calophyllum inophyllum leaves

Safrina Hapsari et al.

Summary: Calophyllum inophyllum, a species found in mangrove forests of Indonesia and Africa, is rich in bioactive compounds and has been used in traditional medicine. This study investigated the optimal conditions for extracting the highest total phenolic content (TPC) using a one-factor-at-a-time experiment method. The results showed that the type and concentration of organic solvent, as well as the extraction temperature, significantly influenced the TPC, total flavonoid content (TFC), and yield of the crude extract. The highest TPC was achieved with 80% methanol in water at 30 degrees C for 48 h, resulting in a TPC of 289.12 mg GAE/g of Calophyllum inophyllum residue. Additionally, bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate was detected for the first time in the extract.

Effect of solvent polarity on the Ultrasound Assisted extraction and antioxidant activity of phenolic compounds from habanero pepper leaves (Capsicum chinense) and its identification by UPLC-PDA-ESI-MS/MS

Emanuel Herrera-Pool et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the extraction of phenolic compounds from Capsicum chinense leaves using the UAE method and different solvent polarities. The results showed that the highest recovery of total phenolic content was achieved with MeOH (50%) solvent, and the Weibull and Gaussian models exhibited high regression values.

Extraction of phenolic compounds: A review

Oluwaseun Ruth Alara et al.

Summary: Phenolic compounds, part of secondary metabolites in plants, have diverse structures and distribution in plants, making extraction challenging. Selecting an appropriate extraction method is crucial for recovering target phenolic compounds efficiently. This review focuses on various extraction methods for phenolic compounds, both conventional and unconventional.
