Reaction Kinetics of Photoelectrochemical CO2 Reduction on a CuBi2O4-Based Photocathode

Jiaqi Jin et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the charge transfer reaction rate during CO2 reduction on CuBi2O4 catalysts via surface modification. We find that the surface amine group enhances the charge separation rate, while surface acidity has a lesser influence. The intensity-modulated photocurrent spectroscopy analysis indicates that APTES-coated CuBi2O4 exhibits higher charge transfer and recombination rates. Designing more effective nanostructured photoelectrodes is essential to increase the charge separation and transfer rate while reducing recombination under photoelectrochemical cell conditions.

Recent advance in physical description and material development for single component SOFC: A mini-review

Taimoor Raza et al.

Summary: This paper presents a mini review on the recent development of single component solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), which have the potential to overcome the limitations of high operating temperatures. Unlike conventional three-component SOFCs, single component SOFCs feature a homogeneous layer with hybrid dual ions conduction based on semiconductor-ion hetero-structure materials. The research focuses on the interfacial properties and mechanisms of semiconducting-ionic materials and the transition from non-functional to functional materials with potential for dual ions conduction. The potential of this new device is evaluated and compared to conventional SOFCs, highlighting its promising future prospects.

Enhanced charge collection and surface activity of a CuBi2O4 photocathode via crystal facet engineering

Bing Tan et al.

Summary: In this study, we aimed to enhance the performance of transition metal oxide photoelectrodes by modulating their crystal facets. By designing the structure of CuBi2O4 crystals, we created a highly stable and active surface region, resulting in a threefold increase in photocurrent for water reduction and improved fill factor. Through analysis of electrochemical catalytic performance, carrier collection, and charge utilization, we demonstrated the improved performance of the photoelectrode.

High-performance bulky crystalline copper bismuthate photocathode for enhanced solar water splitting

Gabkyung Seo et al.

Summary: A novel solution synthesis method was used to fabricate bulky, dense copper bismuthate photocathodes with improved charge transport and photocurrent stability compared to porous counterparts. Under simulated sunlight irradiation, the optimized copper bismuthate photocathode achieved a high photocurrent density without the need for a scavenger. Additionally, by coupling copper bismuthate with a cupric oxide underlayer and a Pt electrocatalyst, the photocurrent density was further increased to the highest value reported to date among all copper bismuthate based photocathodes.
